Deaf client - wants to arrange via text only
« on: 05 July 2018, 11:24:43 am »
Hi ladies,

Would you consider meeting a deaf client who can only arrange via text?

I have no qualms over meeting someone who is deaf so long as I understand exactly what he wanted prior to meeting and was able to signal things to me, like whether he was enjoying or not.

But I am not sure if I feel comfortable arranging via text only. Obviously he can't call and hear me but this just all seems odd? It's making exceptions from my rules because someone physically can't adhere to them?

I've seen a couple of deaf clients this way and had no problems. As always it depends on how they come across via the texts like any other prospective client.

I had texts from a guy before claiming to be deaf but he was demanding I see him ASAP.
Because I was suspicious I didn't go any further with the communication.
I blocked.

I've done it once, and he also emailed me. He did explain that he could hear a little with his hearing aid - I was a bit worried about taking the booking otherwise in terms of safety, i.e. him not being able to hear me say 'No!' to anything. It went fine.

I had this very recently he kept texting i told him to ring he said he suffers from hearing problems so is not able to speak on phone. I told him sorry it will not work for my vetting procedure and when he arrives i do the address when i know they are by the landmark via phone so not comfortable doing it any other way.

He said it is not my fault i have a disability i told him i understand that but i cannot see someone when cannot speak via phone.

I've had a deaf client before, a couple of months ago. He texted explaining his disabilities. I was very wary about taking his booking as it wasn't from AW because according to him he had no account. However before I saw him, I made sure a friend was in another room for security just in case, you never know. Turned out he was legit and very easy. With clients like this, I think it's a bit hit or miss.

I had a potential client text telling me he was deaf, the messages were not indicative of somebody I wanted to see and he didn't seem very polite so I blocked. I would not be comfortable taking a booking like that in case he was not actually deaf, he could be drunk or high or something trying to avoid phone conversation so you would find out.

For genuinely deaf or hard of hearing guys surely it makes sense to contact ladies who say they are fine with text bookings or by AW email rather than argue the point with someone who needs a phone call.

I have done this once, I haven't done it more often because the contact was always extremely rude and pushy.

I'd do it again IF the client was polite, respectful etc just like anyone else.

i had a deaf client before and i've stayed with him only half hour as i couldn't communicate with him...and for me was really difficult to do it only by signs... but he was ok, he understood why i can take him only half hour and i saw him a couple of times after, only for half hour.

i think you should give him a try for half hour you see how it goes. :)

Lydiaa, this isn't a reason to be wary of taking a booking. Probably fewer than half of mine come from AW and fewer than one in a hundred actually book through the online system there.

I can't arrange by text because I need to be able to talk punters to my door, but I've had deaf clients who can manage a brief phone call (as can I - I'm deaf in one ear). If somebody could only communicate by text I couldn't see them at my flat, but if I was in a hotel then assuming they'd passed my screening I'd just bring them up to my floor and then go and get them.

I have a blind regular who I had to go outside and grab the first time he visited and now he comes straight to the door every time, although I do look out for him in case he misses it. He never has :).

Mine was outcall.

I did have an incall once with someone who did speak on the phone, no mention of deafness until he turned up by a noisy main road having ignored my text message directions..........very difficult to talk him to the point where he could see my door, and even worse in person never mind the 'shout back' when leaving.

These days I provide detailed directions by text message to the door (apart from for one person who doesn't want a text message trail on his phone but he could hear), but back then things were quite different.

Make sure he's not your ex, that bad guy who is  stalking you at the moment. be careful, that may be the reason he doesn;t want to talk on the phone.

Guys who have a genuine disability will work with you to jump through your hoops. I had a guy, when I was ignoring all texts, call me and ask through the teletype service, I'm going to book, can I please do that through text as I am profoundly deaf?

Having had experience of partners with hearing problems I was happy to accommodate.

I have had counteless texts "Oh I can't speak to you as I'm deaf" and I reply "That's no problem I'm fluent in ESL, let's talk over Whatsapp so I can see you signing"
Funnily enough it never happens...
