I had a business account as being self employed with a business name that was in a cheque book.etc and when i paid someone through the account there end it came up with my full name which i thought it would show just my business name when i spoke to the bank and said how comes my business account is showing as my name to other people. They said even though it might have my business name on letters and cheque book they said it's only limited company where it would full show the business name and as i did have a limited company with a completely different industry to this that always showed up as the name of the company and not my name.

So moral of the story my self employed business sole trader account showed my name to people on there statement their end. So if you are that worried make sure you check this out before sending payments from a business account that is not from a limited company and just sole trader.

How about having a business account as a sole trader with your business name (non registered company)? Something like "Ana's therapies" Would every time you get a payment from a client show your real name on his bank statement or would show my business/non registeredcompany name? I'm about to open a business account  so this info is crucial.

We have recent posts from at least two members (at least one is in the Deposits thread, because I remember seeing it) who use business accounts where their business name is what comes up on the punters account; it makes no sense to have a single person's name come up on a business account when there could be multiple people using it? When I was half of a (completely unrelated) business partnership many years ago we had a Lloyds business account and the debit card/payments showed only the business name.

Since I've never had and never intend to have one myself though, it's better if somebody who does answers.

Wow, thank you for sharing. Your experience confirms my concerns, regarding my full name and new business bank account. That's why I never understood how everyone here opens a business bank account, take and receive deposits without revealing their full name. I assumed that everyone never reveals their full name while paying for advertising or taking deposits.

I don't think anybody is happy to reveal their legal name to punters - I certainly wouldn't and I don't take any payment other than cash. Equally, I don't have any problem paying work related expenses with my debit card, because I have no reason to think I have any concerns about doing so and it makes my life easier when doing admin.

Since I can't get my head around the paranoia, I'm out. And 'everyone here' has not opened a business account, as I said in my post above.

I would assume everyone uses their personal debit card and gives there real name and address, it hasn't crossed my mind people do different.

I pay for ads with debit card and always have. I'm not worried companies know my name and address In the old days of newspapers it was even the local newspaper staff who knew me.
But I'm not breaking any law so I don't worry about it.

From punters I only take cash. I don't take deposits.

Maybe things have changed or only showed up on certain people's banks but a few years ago I had a Natwest business account only sole trader, on my cheque book had the business name on it e.g. Kelly's cakes. Well i gave someone my business name, sort code, account number for a payment at a later date they mentioned the full name it showed up on their bank statement for example Kelly Smith and the bank told me it never showed up as just a sole trader name as it was not a limited company.

I also had a business account that was a limited company with Barclays and had to show proof when i set up that account to the bank to show i had the limited company with documents and that only ever came up in other peoples statements as the company name.

So i would fully check this out to make sure before using it for punters. Maybe if you got 2 accounts or a friend that could test it out and send a small payment to see what it shows other end on a statement.
