Customers turned time wasters

I have noticed recently last few month I am getting many customers who come for there appointment everything is great. They contact me again maybe in week or two time to arrange another visit and not show up. This seems to be happening a lot, is anybody else having this too?
I can understand time wasters but it’s clients who have previously seen me  :FF

Yes it happened to me

One of my regs.. he booked my first appointment .. I gave it to him as he has never let me down in the past, he has always Been reliable.. 5 mins before the booking was due I receive a text of him saying so sorry can’t get out of work, will see you next time . I understand things can happen but to cancel 5 mins before the  booking it’s taking the piss.. what annoyed me  the most was I could have given that time to someone else if he would have let me know sooner that he couldn’t make it  .. as the booking only got cancelled 5 mins before.. I couldn’t replace the booking and it lost me money.

He is now on my block list .. I think once they get comfortable with you they think it’s ok to mess around .. I don’t give second chances to ones who cancel near to the time, or if they are a no show.. I won’t see them again

I had been inconvenienced by a reg before hand  I cancelled plans to accommodate his 2 hour booking as needed the cash badly
He cancelled that morning I didnt allow another booking of his afterwards.
In fact he hasn't attempted to get in touch since.

This is why I ask for a deposit for at least the first 2 bookings, after that then depends on how many cancels happen. I assess based on history, proportion and also if there are any special requirements such as significant travel, time since last booking, am I booking a hotel or tour.

Some on second bookings have left me sitting like a lemon, also learned to be strict with confirmation (people who I have extended a 'no need to confirm' have really messed me around).

I have some years ago had regulars who cancelled or changed over 50% of bookings made, although less common these days I also have the occasional log term regular start to cancel half of the bookings made, and or change the timing and or duration. Having to make a difficult decision now, because to ask this particular person to pay a deposit would (I think) really offend him but I have to find a way to manage it. Things do happen, but I know many do not have these things happen, and or do not change their booking around.

End of the day all things being equal I want to deal with people who are reliable, book without fuss and come to their booked appointment - which business or individual would not want customers like this!?

When ladies are  asking for deposits do you have them put through into your bank account then allowing clients to know your personal information?
Or do they pay in vouchers ?
I've never asked for deposits

Kiss, all new clients pay a 20% deposit in the form of an e-gift card of my choice, usually a supermarket but sometimes a department store/Net-a-Porter etc. However, even deposits aren't necessarily a deterrent. I have had plenty of new clients/time wasters happily pay a £200+ deposits and still flake out/cancel. All deposits are non-refundable so I don't really lose out.

Regular/long term clients don't have to pay a deposit unless there is travel involved/it's a booking of two plus days, and then it's 50% plus travel. This is paid by bank transfer. I know my clients personal info at the outset, so have no problem with them knowing mine, well, once they have proved themselves to be dependable and respectful. Also, rthese clients know that they only have to muck me about once for me to refuse to see them again.

I found men on AW to be most resistant to deposits, and also home to the most time wasters. I stopped using AW altogether.

There's a long thread on deposits somewhere, I accept bank transfer or gift cards.

And yes as Miffy has written, it doesn't rule out cancels or lack of confirmation at agreed time.

If someone paid me a £200 deposit and cancelled I would be delighted and I would not give it back. And they would pay another one next time. I’m strict like that though and I don’t get any messers but I tour a lot so they know I’m not coming back for another 6 months they do try and get to me.

GG, all my deposits are non-refundable, so I kept it. In fact, that month, I had a few cancellations resulting in £500 for no work at all!

If I do elect to see a new client who has cancelled once, of course he has to pay a new deposit!

Not if I could have gotten the extra if they had turned up or I have regulars or other punters who are waiting to see me, or someone who turns into a regular, leaves feedback, or writes a review. I didn't understand this until I started it, also some bookings require more admin than others.
