Contact from StreetlightUK
« on: 18 March 2025, 11:27:22 am »
I am wondering if anyone received a text message from 'Cherry' claiming to be from Streetlightuk a 'support' organisation for sex workers? A glimpse at their website reveals they appear to be more of a 'rescue' organisation. The two messages they have sent me so far are from the same but totally unidentifiable mobile number, not one of the numbers on their website. Their website implies they are focusing on London, although I work in London perhaps 3 days each year, most of the time I am nowhere near London. I have replied to the text message asking how do I know it's actually someone from the organisation, and I have asked them to clarify their position on sex work.

They sound dodgy as hell like they have some sort of hidden agenda. Anyone who writes on their website "prostitution is never a choice" just
lost my respect. Maybe you want to get back to ask "cherry" if she wants to be saved by you? Workis quite slow at the moment so i feel very tempted of painting a sign that reads "Save Cherry".

Any charity that’s any use to us probably wouldn’t be Cold calling (ok, texting) as wouldn’t they have better things to be doing? Weird

From my person opinion - don’t get involved ! Like you say it is very much from a “what will you do after this ? What can we do to help you stop ?”

They read this site and so I don’t want to say too much.

I do think there is a place for support like that but they claim to be non-religious but impose that sometimes. The name includes STREET so I’m not sure why seek to “save” independent escorts. I don’t think I’m better than someone isn’t independent but I just wonder why they contact women who aren’t expressly displaying any desire to stop or anything to give them reason to “help.”

This gets more suspicious, the texter says they understand they can't prove who they are but can speak on the phone or meet me in a [Town name local to me].

Because of my location being where it is (not a town know for sex work and hours away from anywhere with outreach services) this is definitely weird.

I would play along and see where this leads, if this is a scam or dodgy individual targeting vulnerable women with some sort of "hidden agenda" you might need to inform ugly mugs or place a warning.

I phoned one of the contact numbers on the website, seems there is a support worker in this region, they are wanting to provide support in locations where there's a lack of outreach. The person I spoke to confirmed this person is genuine, I deliberately didn't mention name used by the texter, she told me the workers name Cherry towards the end of the call.

The person I spoke to explained their worker is likely to be working through numbers on directories, and websites. I explained I had no way of knowing if this was a text from someone using their organisation as a way to lull women into a false sense of security, and or exploit them.  I made it very clear I have been doing this a long time, my choice. The person I spoke to said they would be taking this as useful feedback, and told me they also provide support for those who don't want to exit. I was offered a free help pack, I told her I will contact them through their website or at a later date if I want or need anything,

Yeah, they tried to sign up here a while ago but that was as far as they got. There's a time and a place for trying to educate these numpties but SAAFE is not it, and our sex work project board is not open to them.

I haven't had any direct contact from them though. I'll be happy to explain some home truths to them if I do.

A lady contacted me, she seemed harmless, only asked me if there was anything she could do for me, I said no thank you. She offered a care pack of condoms and rape alarms but I declined as I have no need for help like that. I thought it was nice of them to offer though. She contacted me a couple of times over the course of 6 months and then said she would take me off the list if I would like.
I didn’t get any kind of rescue vibes

Thank you, the thing that I am finding upsetting is their recommended booklist is full of the awful side. Yes the awful side exists I do not dispute that, but the vibe I get from their website and a post or two on social media is a hidden assumption and agenda. I could be wrong but they seem as if they would be an organisation who would support the Nordic model. They mention wanting stricter legislation for advertising, they have slogans such as 'demand does not end at Christmas'.

I have now looked through their Instagram, a post made 21 weeks ago clearly says 'we advocate for the Nordic Model'. another post made 26 weeks ago claims the Nordic model is a 'groundbreaking' approach, shifting the burden onto the buyers....those of use who have been around a while are likely to recognise this 'argument'.

I understand how nice they were with you, but on this basis I won't and can't engage with them. Wolves in sheep's clothing.

Ignorants with agendas make me furious, I personally know of many nordic sex workers who got robbed and attack yet didn't go to the police because that would involve having their names and address in a sex worker registry and a police car parked in their entrance to arrest or deterr her clients. No one wants to loose their livelihoods and no one wants to have a police car parked outside their work hence sex workers dont go to the cops which leaves them in a very vulnerable position, the bad guys know that and attacks are common, welcome to the nordic model which really fu-cks sex workers. The good news is that it sorta sweeps the problem under the proverbial rug which is exactly what the scandinavian government wants.

Anyone advocating the nordic model hates sex workers and women in the industry, sweeping them under the rug is their way of punishing them.

I feel almost groomed, certainly disgusted. I can be a bit like a 'dog with a bone' and am often suspicious even when not appropriate. I asked someone close to me to check out their website, given an opinion, they didn't spot the agenda but was just getting this very odd feeling.
