Condoms needed for New WGs
« on: 21 June 2013, 05:06:37 pm »
I have met some new WGs who really are struggling to find their feet, I think they are students doing this part-time. One of them ran out of condoms because she didn't realise that she could need more than two for a session !

Is there somewhere I could take them to get a whole load of condoms free of charge ?

The local GUM clinic will supply free of charge. Simply google for local one.

Edit to add : It might be a good idea to point the newbies in the direction of SAAFE and then they can pick up this info for themselves and also helpful info that might help them along the way.

Beauty is nothing to do with having a pretty face.
It is about having a pretty mind, a pretty heart,
And most importantly a beautiful soul.

To be honest they seem to be treating everything like a game, so who knows when they will start taking things seriously

Perhaps best to take a back seat then and let them get on with things.  Lead by example, if they see you working in a better manner they may follow suit.

Exactly, you don't know how they've entered into this, treating it like a game can be an initial form of protection, try being there for them and seeing if they really are ok with this job....many are many aren't

And your presumption that I don't know how they entered into this is misplaced. All I am trying to do is help make sure they have the protection they need while they get themselves on their feet. So when they are in a place to make better informed decisions they are not burdened with unnecessary worries or cares.

Keep it civil, please.

Apart from anything else, it's not an unreasonable thing to ask - why have these women not been directed to a sex work project or even here so they can learn for themselves? They're not babies, and do you really want to feel responsible for them if they're just going to behave recklessly and irresponsibly no matter what you tell them, because it's going to start getting either annoying, unpleasant, dangerous or all of the above very quickly?

Let make this very simple I have found the condoms I need. So I don't need idle speculation about a group of young women none of you have ever met.

What makes you think they have not been referred to to a service, and behaviour that is the consequence of inexperience or bravado or whatever should not condemn anyone to a life sentence. They were making mistakes, now I have done my bit to help out and now they can get on with it.

I would give them the details of the nearest sex worker project or GUM clinic and leave them to it.  either that or point them in the direction of Freedoms NHS as they sell in bulk and some are only ?13 for 144

as said above you don't want to be in the position that they come to you for every little thing as it can become very tiring and will drain you very quickly.  I got stuck in that situation before and the girl took up more of my time than I was willing to give as she was constantly running to me for every tiny thing and in the end I was losing out on bookings as she would just turn up needing 'help' or advice again.
I almost quit this work because of it, as I just could not cope with her treating me as if I owed her my time and every problem she had ended up being MY fault.
If they want to see this job as a bit of fun or a bit of a joke then that is up to them.  They will learn very quickly that you need to be very serious about this work

Point them to here and a clinic or project then tell them they have to just get on with it.  I am sure even they know they can just pop to any supermarket and buy condoms so its not as if they need to be without any if you don't help them
Truth is far more important than what one wants to hear. With truth there is no us and them or colour or religion there is just fact

That's fine. But given that this is a discussion forum, in that case it's probably best not to post about things you don't wish anybody to discuss.

Exactly. The comment I made above was not speculation about these women and their motives, it was a suggestion on how to save yourself some extremely tedious phone conversations, if nothing else.
