Hello, I'm new and would love some tips and advice!
« on: 21 June 2013, 07:49:38 pm »
First of all I would like to say hello and what a wonderful and helpful site this seems.

I have just joined an agency and am currently waiting tonight for my first potential out call.  I am very nervous as I have never done this before.  Any advice eg.. how to start up a conversation for clients, do's and don'ts. I really do not want to make an idiot out of myself as it's my first time and really have no idea of what to expect apart from the obvious.
I guess it is just a case of being yourself apart from giving your real name and your home address lol :)

Lara, while you get the time, have a read of the Main Site, you will find the button above along from the Home button.  Read it two, three and four times.  There is so much to know you cant possibly take it all in in one read or even two.  There is also a Search button just along from the Main Site button where you can search through the forum for things you might want to know when others are not online.

All the best for tonight. x
Beauty is nothing to do with having a pretty face.
It is about having a pretty mind, a pretty heart,
And most importantly a beautiful soul.

Hi Lara! If you've read the main site about 3 or 4 times (a must!) and are just looking for more "tips" than safety things etc... I would say avoid talking about inflammatory (sp?) topics like politics if possible. I always ask things I would on a date - "what have you been up to today?" "Oh I don't know much about that as a career, what's your favourite thing about it?" but your client could very well not want to chat at all. If it seems they don't want to chat and want to get down to it but are shy, I try to initiate a little physical contact like putting my hand on his knee while we chat.

I'm a student so I tell them that, and tell them I do a similar but different degree to what I actually do. I'm honest about my hobbies without naming any organisations/teams etc that I'm part of.

There are some really interesting things on the forum, like what are good things to have in your handbag ect, so it's worth having a browse at Q&A and Blather & Babble. The search function is great. The warnings & wasters section is really good to look at often for your safety and sanity! I think the main thing is that it's of course okay to be nervous but try to seem in control, and remember that really you ARE in control and stick to your guns if you're not happy about something.

On one of my very first bookings, I was having a nice chat with the guy and was relating something a friend had said to me, and while quoting my friend I used my real name, just a slip of the tongue. I think we need to even keep the automatic parts of our brain in check! Stuff like that takes a while which is why I tried to avoid certain topics, until I knew I really thought of myself as my work name.

Good luck tonight :) Stay safe and have fun!
I like my men clean, gentlemanly and with envelopes...

An easy way to link to the main site is to copy and paste the first bit of the forum URL from the address bar like this: http://www.saafe.info/ :)

As the others have said, read it many times (and there is an article specifically about employing agencies) and as the others have said, just try to relax and keep yourself in check; don't tell punters you're new (you can say you haven't been working long, but no more than that) and make sure you have a security buddy who knows where you are and what time you're expecting to leave and contact them - don't trust the agency to do it. And don't give them any personal info, either.

Thank you every one, I shall take every thing you have said into consideration. Some useful points and have had a read through the site. Very informative.

Had nothing last night but she said it has been quiet. As for a buddy I am going to tell my friend where I will be.  :)
