ICE - In Case of Emergency
« on: 17 February 2009, 10:05:10 am »
Ive seen this before and thought it was a brilliant idea, and something we can use in our personal lives as well as professional ones.  Ive come across it again on Facebook, and here is the info:

Quote
ICE (In Case of Emergency) Idea
The "ICE" idea, is catching on and it is a very simple, yet important method of contact for you or a loved one in case of an emergency. As cell phones are carried by the majority of the Population, all you need to do is program the number of a contact person or persons and store the name as "ICE".

The idea was thought up by a paramedic who found that when they went to the scenes of accidents, there were always mobile phones with patients, but they didn't know which numbers to call. He therefore thought that it would be a good idea if there was a nationally recognized name to file "next of kin" under.

Following a disaster in London the East Anglican Ambulance Service has launched a national "In case of Emergency (ICE)" campaign. The idea is that you store the word "ICE" in your mobile phone address book and with it enter the number of the person you woul d want to be contacted "In Case of Emergency ". In an emergency situation, Emergency Services personnel and hospital staff would then be able to quickly contact your next of kin, by simply dialing the number programmed under "ICE".
Please forward this.

What a good idea.
You just have to have somebody to be your 'ICE'
Now, who can I burden it upon....

And you can have different ICEs. My partner's ICE 1, my mum's ICE 2, my sister ICE 3 and so on. Have a few listed in your phone, just in case one of your ICEs can't be reached immediately.

I have ICE contacts on my personal phone, but would you put them on your work phone too?

No, but my buddy is my best friend in the business so she's in my personal phone as an ICE.

I have them on my work phone too, in case the paramedics pick that up first. They all know about my work though, so there's not much to worry about for me.

Anyone who considers you to be in such a state they need to use your ICE number isnt going to call and say you were escorting.  its something that was designed to help paramedic and police if you are in an accident/hospitalised etc and cant voice your request yourself.  Ive had ICE on my phone since 9/11 thats when i first heard about it.  but does anyone know if the authorities know about it?  do they actually look for ICE in a phone first?

Lol...there'd be no point in having an ICE on my work phone. Apart from the fact that I have my personal phone on me more than my work phone, having entries such as "annoying poo guy", "arsehole" and "Sunday a/noon wanker" I imagine would be confusing to the paramedics. They'd probably fall about laughing though I'm sure. A bit of comic relief in an otherwise dire situation.

And yes, as it was devised by a paramedic a few years ago, I'd imagine all the relevant authorities would know about it. I'm proud to say it started here in the UK first, and is apparently catching on in other countries now.
I've had my ICE contacts for about 2yrs now.

hehe, Oh Brandy, I hadn't even though of that, my TW section on my work phone book is similar, including 'TW indian titwanker' 'TW arsebiter', etc.

Actually on second thoughts it is probably to have an ICE on the work phone to save clients being contacted by an emergency worker.
