advice on moving/working in london
« on: 01 February 2018, 07:38:38 pm »

hello everyone,

I have wanted to move to London for the longest but have been putting it off due to rent and life being so expensive there.  Now i am ready to make this move finally! The only way i am able to rent a place is by going through a private landlord (i want to live on my own). I am finding it really hard to find a decent place and the main reason i am making this move is to attract high end clients and to increase my prices. I'm I able to attract high end clients whilst living in north, east, west or south? or is this only possible in central? is a studio good enough as that is what I can only afford a the moment?of course i don't mind working my way up as i know nothing comes easy at first.  I would really appreciate any advice on working in London and if any one can give me a list of good areas for me to move too. Is there always work or is it like anywhere else? I am just afraid to move there and barely make rent money.   :)

A studio will be fine if it's in a good condition, with a decent sized bedroom and a nice bathroom with a good shower.

As to location, while avoiding any rough areas is sensible, otherwise it's more transport links. You might try somewhere like Waterloo, Victoria or Kings Cross if you work early mornings and 4-8pm especially. Lunchtime trade you'll be better in the City or somewhere central. There are also some busyish places not in the centre, like Finchley Road, Harrow, Wembley, Clapham, or maybe somewhere a bit more residential, like South Woodford, Finchley or Ealing.

Some girls chose not to live centrally as the rents are higher but rent by the hour a flat in central LOndon from another girls paying anything from ?20-40 with deals for multiple hours.  Living in central London is more expensive, that is why girls charge a bit more (especially if they live alone) in order to cover the rent.  If you charge less it means you would have to have lots of bookings.

I was seriously thinking bout moving back to London my self but
I decided no when I was looking into it . Idealy I would need a one
bed room as I have a dog a studio would be too small but I did
go view them there small but they would be ok for work  but there
so expensive hun . I was looking at Islington , Angel , Paddington ,
liverpool street stat , but you will be looking at like 350 to 500 a week hun
I personaly do not think I can get that much work in central to justify
moving there . Stevenage or surrey like Surbiton could be worth looking
into cheaper and not far from London if you want that London lifestyle.
I have worked in the northeast I do not rate Newcastle I found it dead.
But I did like middlesborough  clients were nice and it was busy xxxx

There are some nice places surrounding Stevenage to live although the town itself is rather run down and a bit scary.
I've only tried working there a couple of times with an okay level of success but the rates are lower than London and the surrounding areas, didn't like the clients I had either alot of short bookings complaining about rates (odd given the rent in that area) the rent is not too much lower though unless you head into areas clients refuse to come to.  I recently looked at moving there and decided against it after several warnings not to work there. I think key with Stevenage maybe to pick the correct areas.
I also when looking at London thought the same about level of work to justify it, not doable comfortably so I live a little way outside and tour into London.

Yeh I see what you mean I didnt find it rough the clients were nice
but did have a few odd balls in stevenage . I prefer clients up north
than I do down south less strange ones . I would love to live in central
london but to really enjoy it you need to be making good money so
expensive london is . I just worked it out and I reckorn I would make the
same I do touring but  2500 down a month due to living expenses .
Didnt seem worth it to me . My friend lives in knights bridge and its
lovely her place she pays nearly 2 k a month for a studio its in a great
location but she says she is left with a 2500 k profit a month some times
less but she works all the time but she just loves the city of london

If you want to live alone, you can find 1 bedroom flats for ?1300. Studios you may find cheaper.
I am looking for rent myself so I checked zoopla extensively and I can say that the best and cheapest place to live would be Victoria/pimlico. They have cheap studios in that area and also it's very busy area because of Victoria station, it's near vauxhall, near Knightsbridge, near Mayfair or south Kensington. And it's still in zone 1. I heard that council tax is cheapest there?
Or you can rent 2 bed flat with other girl and then maybe you could only pay ?800-900pcm each
The most important thing is to find good place with intercom, but also if you are looking for studio, then make sure you have a bit more space and you have where to put/to hide your personal stuff/documents, etc.

But the other thing is I am not sure where you will find private landlords. In London it's very hard to find it. I could suggest you maybe joining Facebook groups and asking them? Should more private landlords there.

Your friend appears to be doing well if she gets that after paying rent.

I agree with Barbie that london at those prices dosent seem to be woth it .
I would rather tour it 2 days a week and live elsewhere Thats cheaper

2500 per month is about ?600 a week - I wouldn't personally say it's good for London . You can make that in  pretty much any decent city without the huge rent to pay
But if you like living in London I guess for some it must be woth it I would have a heart attack at paying ?500 a week for a studio

I suppose it depends on if she works full time or part time but basically on those figure half her earnings for rent alone is going on just living in London

Well. If op wouldn't get her prices crazy high and will do good advertisement, then surely each day when a bit more established she could get 2-3 clients if she will live in zone 1. Which should make 400 a day, so 4k a month shouldn't be so hard to achieve. Just I wouldn't look to a place more expensive than 1.4k pcm on first year as you never know how it will go.

Hi guys, I'm thinking about relocating to London. I work successfully on tours but I'm thinking of moving to London and additionally working low volume from home and tour but less often. Which areas are the best to attract clients (with a rate of about 350-400 ph)? I would like to live in a discrete complex of flats but I don't know London very well and I'm not sure where should I look.
