So similar to 'Does it annoy you when Clients ask you personal question's' thread; there was a few posts about Clients asking us our real names and whether it bother's you or not so whats your experiences; good, bad or funny, with this question girls??

I get very annoyed when they ask this & I've had a few different experiences with this:

*Client who is a Chef in a Chinese Restaurant asked me (when I worked in sauna) 'What would happen if you came into my restaurant for food & I said to you "Hi (Working Name) how are you", wouldn't this be odd since this isn't your real name'? I answered 'well tbh I wouldn't be in your direction of town anyway as its miles away from where I live & there are literally hundreds of chinese restaurants between where I am & where your work is so this 'problem' won't be a problem' and he said 'but just incase'? to which I replied 'well tbh if you ever do see me in your work then you could always just not speak to me at all & just act like you don't know me', omg his face!! I thought he was going to cry...

*Client in sauna recognised me from when I worked at an agency & said to me 'but your name was xxxx so howcome your now calling yourself xxxxxxx'?, I answered 'because its just a work name hun & none of these names are my real names' cue a look of dismay from saud client who then say's 'Ahh so you're a f****** liar then'?!! he was totally deadpan!! tried explaining why we have working names but he just said 'there is no excuse for such a blatant lie, hmmmph who lies about their name for godsake'!!!

*Client installs true caller app (seen a thread about this 1 thing earlier but as thread is about real names then I'll mention it) & texts me with 'Hi (my real 1st+last name) are you available'? & I was fuming but could only blame myself for using my own personal phone for the first few months on AW, though in saying that he was the only client that ever said anything abt true caller app. I was fuming with this guy as he knew exactly what he was doing...hates SWs most likely.

I could tell you many many more incidences but tbh I'm starting to get a headache & typing posts on my phone isn't an ideal thing for me when I have a headache so I'll leave it at that!! lol... Can't wait to hear other tales from the fabulous world of SW!!!

How do they get your real name from true caller app

I did wonder that myself but I thought it was down to the fact that it was a contract phone which of course is in my real name?? Or is that crap?? if so then he obvs got it thru Facebook, my own fault really & I've now not got ANY pics of myself on Facebook so my number can't be linked although I stopped using my personal number a while ago, I've been in this game a while so should know better. He did say 'well my true caller app says this is 'real name'!. Prick

Truecaller works by sharing the contact details of all users. So if you are stored in someone's phone as "Jane Smith" and they sign up to Truecaller, anyone else on Truecaller can see that info as well when they search your phone number.

Using your personal phone for work is NOT a good idea unless you fancy being outed very quickly.

I've only had a couple of clients ask my real name. I think most of them are aware it's not good etiquette.

Thanks for this, some clients have my true name so I'm assuming if one of those changes the stored name and uses Truecaller then it'll come up as that on Truecaller. Hmmm.

I'm already put off by it, and this is a reason to steer clear.

Yes, that's the main benefit for us. I've already avoided several twats who've been saved as "Pushy and abrasive", "TW Twat in Birmingham", "Chats shit and never books", etc.

If you have an iphone with a payg sim card and you are in someone contact list and they download truecaller would they be able to see your real name.

It works by phone number. So if someone's got you saved on that phone number under your real name, then yes.
The handset is irrelevant, it's all about the number.

After having a conversation with somebody here the other day about True caller, I had a look at it and you can unlist your number easily although it apparently can take 24 hours to go

Back on topic, I don't think of it as 'real' name and 'fake' name since many more hundreds of people know me as Amy than ever will know me by my legal name and that seems pretty 'real' to me. I don't find punters ask very often, but I just tell them that of course my work name is real in a tone so patently taking the piss that they don't ask again .

Problem is that you can't use it without having your number listed.

What is true caller anyway? Why is it beneficial? Especialy if it risks exposing your private details.
