Client trying to blackmail me. Advise needed
« on: 12 February 2017, 09:41:58 pm »
Basically an client that I refused to see again is harassing me over text. They are demanding money off me. Trying to threaten me with bad feedback and saying they know my real name (I don't think they do). Am I ok to take this up with the police or will I be arrested for being an escort?

Being an escort isn't illegal

Let them leave negative feedback: screencap their texts. Register for an account, submit it as reply in the thread or to the mod. Problem solved.

Further option:

Then go to the Police, show then that they acted on this and that they tried to force you into having sex with them via coercion or to give them money (the fact that you are a sex worker makes no difference, it is sex via coercion aka sexual assault, threatening you as you won't give them sex or money in lieu is blackmail and harassment) them via blackmail and and threats demanding money, there is most likely a Police officer that is willing to give them a call (try to approach a female officer where possible) and tell them a report has been lodged and they will be investigated and charged for harassment if it happens again.

Consequence of this option:

It's a burner phone, not registered to him. This prompts further shitty behaviour and he makes your life hell. Might be easier just to call his bluff, go for option A if he does do anything and prove that it is a fake review since you have evidence of someone threatening it..

Block him, ignore him, google search your name regularly and search the review forums.

Escorting is not a crime
Blackmailing or harassing is one.

1) Write him to stop immediately. Otherwise you'll call the police.

2) If he continues, call the police.

Just want to add that in England it's not illegal to pay, or be paid for sex.

Maybe join UglyMugs - I'm pretty certain they can help with general advice and any dealings with the police.

Isn't a fake review a fraud or a harassment? The Communications Act 2003 has been used to prosecute aggressive trolling. Wiki has a page on this. He really should no better and he is intending to reach as wide an audience as possible plus this is a sexual/sex discrimination motivated crime?

If you can get management to watch out for him his IP address may be a giveaway to moderators even if he gets a new account.

What about Scotland?

I'm fairly certain that is the same. Google prostitution laws Scotland, look for a government or prosecution service website (there's a lot of escort sites get legalities wrong).

But blackmailing an escort or anybody is a criminal offence.

Screenshot any correspondence from him. And if he does post bad feedback or a review, upload the images to imgur and post a link as a reply so everyone can see what he's said.

I also agree you need to go to the police, incase he gets worse, atleast they will have it on record.
Also post a warning on here, as it may not be his first or last time doing this. X

Thanks. I have all texts stored on my phone. I don't want to post up any information until I have spoken to an officer (incase I'm not allowed).
