I feel I must update you about my situation, since here I've received a lot of sympathy and understanding, and quite a few useful advices!
Next Thurday I'll fly... to Paris!
Not that I've totally discarded the London option, but, frankly, I'm reconsidering it because it seems quite a complicated (and unsafe) one for a non-British woman.
Still, from Paris, your country is just a short train-ride away, so one never knows... hehe
