Client asking me to contact HIM
« on: 19 July 2015, 12:42:52 am »
I've had enquiries for my upcoming tour (all good) but one potential client has asked me to contact him when I am in his area. Now this sounds a bit odd to me as I would never contact clients to say, 'Hi, I'm here now!' as it just seems too forward.
It might be different if it was a regular but this just seems wrong. I've never had this before.  :-\

Am I being too 'correct?' (If there is such a thing!)

I know what you mean, I usually feel the same way about making the first contact and don't do it. But I think its different for a tour, because you're not in the area usually and they have a limited time to see you.

I go to Scotland sometimes and I have 2 guys who both want me to contact them when I am in the area, both of them asked me to do this before I'd met them. They both want to see me, but dont want to check online every day to see if I'm there (lazy).
I assume that they are single, other wise why would it be ok for me to make the first contact? having said that, when I do text them it's just a simple one saying 'Hi, I'm in town this week' No name or initial and no kiss. Also had it with a guy in Liverpool. He wasn't around when I was and rang me asking if I could contact him when I'm next in town.

I like that foxy, thanks. A 'High, I'm in town this week,' is perfect and then the ball is in their court.

I just didn't want it to seem like I was desperate but yes, it is different touring and I never thought of it like that  :)

I get asked a lot... and I don't have a system to really keep notes on who wants to be contacted.

I can see that that could be a problem. I tend to amend their contact details on my phone so for example a client will change to ' 'Rupert, Today 2.30,' so I suppose I could change to 'text when in London' or something like that.

Without amending their phone details I would get really confused.  :-\

It is either that or keep a spreadsheet! :)

Actually, there are some apps that will make "mailing lists" for texts. Like, you can make a list of contacts under "Birmingham tour" and then send out a text to everyone on that list when you're going to Birmingham. I played around with it - but the one I downloaded was sort of crude and awkward and even remembering to put people on it was a ball-ache so that fizzled.

Frankly, for me, the problem is "out of sight, out of mind." Once the client is gone I don't give them any more thought.

Oh spreadsheets are an arseache.

I think I'll practise conscious forgetting  :)

I've done it loads of times, mainly for regulars. If they want to be contacted I don't see what the problem is. I often find their interest has waned after a couple of weeks, but about one in four seem to like it. The sort of message that goes hi I'm in town, is all you need. Don't chase them for a booking, that does look desperate. To get them thinking about you is all it usually takes.

I used to have the same but dont do it anymore as you would get "sorry who is this" or just a plain ignore.  If they email me I tend to tell them to add me to their hotlist and when in the area it will notify them that I am about.

I got asked that alot by single clients. They are too lazy to keep checking our profiles. Good old fashioned note book & pen or telephone a-z book helps. I used to keep notes on each client by name so I could remember their likes etc. Kind of amusing to go back over the notes too after a year or so. Little black book  ;)

Perhaps offer to add them to a pre tour mailing list?
