Caution Re: counselling Services Ads
« on: 22 September 2008, 04:24:30 pm »
I wanted to highlight this issue I am noticing on some forums I've visited and bring it to everyone's attention. I have noticed it is always males that offer counselling and have contact three different men regarding their adverts and found them all to be charlatans.

Please be very cautious about responding to any advert where someone is advertising counselling services where payment is in kind etc. Do not make contact. There are various community counselling services in every ones area that offer a free service nowadays. Can you please pm me if anyone is aware across all the advertising areas if someone is stating they offer counselling so I can look into it and investigate further.

People access counselling for all different types of problems and those that do can be viewed as being a bit vulnerable. I do not want to see people damaged because they believe they received counselling with possibly no prior knowledge or experience of it. A counsellor under no circumstances are paid through sexual services. It would be seen as a power imbalance and breach of trust within counsellings code of ethics and guidelines. Most are registered with a counselling body such as The British Association Of Counselling Practitioners and would be investigated and struck of if it was known that there was this type of bad practice and advertising. There isn't legislation around counselling at the moment and many courses are not recognised but many practitioners are known in the counselling industry, are accredited or members of a counselling body.
Most women focused agencies like domestic abuse projects etc have a special policy where under a section of the law they can only employ women. This type of industry can be viewed similarly and would really question why a man would want to offer counselling to this type of client group. I'm not saying men shouldn't counsel, far from it but I find the adverts I have seen inappropriate.

I could go on and on about this. So please if anyone is considering taking up an offer of counselling through any sex industry related forums etc can you please contact me. If you are unsure about the counselling approach they are advertising etc what questions to ask the counsellor please feel free to run it by me xxx

Counselling ???? Through payment in kind????? PLEASE tell me you are joking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!    NO WAY!!  LOL... sorry, caps lock off now ;)

As you said, any type of service such as counselling is bound by the ethics committee and I would suggest not a good thing for a payment in kind thing.  Emotions and feelings run high as people seek counselling and I would hate to see a girl struggle because she has a payment in kind arrangement in return for her counselling.

Crista - well done for highlighting this, I cant really say more than you have already but fully support  your comments xx

Yes Suzy there are scammers even going under the guise as counselling. It does infuriate me. I noticed a thread earlier today and spoke with the admin who deleted the guys membership but if any ads come up on his website will contact me, also another forum has adopted this. Awareness raising is so important.
I phoned one guy as I pm'd him on a forum because he was posting about being a therapist and would be happy with payment in kind and did mention for sexual services and not monetory terms. The forums policy is not to accept ads like this and certainly not in general chat by a guy. So I managed to get his phone number. Wanted me to travel to Milton Keynes (I'm in Scotland) he said he would spend all day "fixing me"!! I elaborated and made up an issue I wanted to focus on which was abuse issues. He said he was trained to work with this!!! I asked for qualifications, where he trained, what approach, if his practice was supervised, was he registered or member of a counselling body? He had no answer! I then stated how sick he was considering I falsely asked him for conselling and he was even prepared to have a woman discuss abuse issues and he was then quite happy to fuck me knowing that knowledge! He was banned from this website.

Bloody hell!  This is a new con trick, ive not seen this one before in our industry.

Ive had counselling in the past and have an interest in counselling, however, I would never use anyone who I hadnt checked out and wasnt acredited.

Thanks Crista for bringing this to our attention.

Hugs
