“I Was Given Your Number from a friend”
« on: 09 June 2023, 12:06:02 pm »
This has never happened in the 5+ years of working but twice yesterday (on a non working day where my number isn’t displayed), two separate WhatsApp’s from guys who both said they’d been given my number from someone I’d seen. WhatsApp profile photos of said texter, full name in WhatsApp info.
One said it was from one of my regulars, another said their friends name and that I’d seen him last month.

At first I didn’t think much of it , except I did search the name of his apparent friend and the only name I have matching is someone who cancelled because I called him out on a bad joke (I don’t offer full service - just massage & HE - and the guy had commented something about needing to be tied up so he wouldn’t try anything on & I had basically said how uncomfortable/unsafe  the “joke” had made me feel , and then he ended up cancelling)

Anyway, now this second text comes from another person “one of your regs gave me your number”.

It just seems weird to me. I just can’t imagine someone telling their pal what they get up to and recommending me. If it was just regular massage, sure.

Part of me thinks it could be someone trying to see me who I have previously refused & trying to by-pass the booking process , but I can’t really think of many people I’ve refused because I do usually just see regulars.

What do you think? Odd to get 2 texts like that on the same day/odd in general?
Something feels off.

I've had this and also had the friend pass on my address, this caused indiscretion on the part of the punter who then assumed he didn't need my directions to the door.

In my experience those who tell me they acquired my number from a friend tend to have zero information, incorrect information and or are indiscrete.

I also wonder if the friend could be an internet or forum friend.

Mirror,
Yes, the first texter did indeed have zero info on me and asked where he could find my profile & info - I directed him to my AW profile & he has made an appointment for next week.
I’m iffy now on whether to go through with it or not - had it not been for this second text message saying the same thing, it wouldn’t have raised alarm bells for me really.

This has happened to me a couple of times and I simply respond by asking that the "friend" phones me so I can check it out.

Guess what? Never heard from them or the friend again.  Fine by me.

I would apply all usual rules you use with anyone else, whilst making it clear that sharing information is something you consider indiscrete.

I second this motion and just respond that I'll text them a link to my site so they can make sure their friend gave accurate info

The only time I know a friend did indeed pass on my info was on a Sunday afternoon when I was slobbing out on the sofa, in my pjs with my boyfriend when there's a tentative knock on the door. BF answers to find a somewhat embarrassed guy in his mid-30s asking for me by my work name. Nebby cow that I am, I pop my head around the door (complete with the off-duty updo put in approx 18 hours ago and toothpaste on my t-shirt) and I've never seen the guy before, I gesture to my appearance and tell him he definitely doesn't have an appointment! He explained in broken english that his mate had given him my details but when I didn't answer my phone he thought he would pop in on the off chance!!! I let him know, as politely as possible, that this is not acceptable and to never to show up without an appointment again, and to also give his mate hell for me for sharing my home address. Never saw him again or had anyone mention their part in the incident but my Bf found it hilarious afterwards xx

I don't really get these nowadays (I suspect partly because I don't take bookings by phone, so if they try calling they just get cut off and an autoreply telling them to text), but it used to be shorthand for 'I can't be bothered to read your site' ::)

I used to say 'tell your friend to give you my website address'.

Well, as it turned out , the guy I asked to give me the number of this regular he said he got my number from, is indeed someone I have seen recently (though not a regular as it was only once but he was very pleasant). So that’s one texter I’m feeling okay about.

And The other one has an appointment next week. So perhaps they are genuine in how they got my number afterall, and just a complete coincidence that this happens twice in one non-working day & never have happened previously in all the 5+ years!
