I would think another drawback for us would be that reception is normally unmanned after lock up, so no inhouse security in form of reception or nightporter.

I wouldnt say its a drawback, i dont consider the hotel staff to be any form of security for me.  As long as i arrange my security for what ever time of the day or night i am taking a booking its the only security i rely on.  if anything bad happened, hotel walls and doors are pretty thin, i would be more hopefull that the people in surrounding rooms would here something rather than the staff downstairs.

That is true lexie, but as security buddy I would first try to call the escort to give her an excuse to get out if there was anything dodgy going on, followed by a call to hotel reception if I got no response and only to the police as final resort. If there are no hotel staff available I would have no other option but to call the police. I know these occaisions will be rare, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Just to get back to the original question, I thought this was topical: On Saturday morning I woke up to a voicemail left at 12.30am Friday night. It was a bloke having fun with his mates down the pub, or at a wine bar, whatever's open at that time of night, it was quite noisy. He didn't leave me a message per se, I could hear him chatting merrily away to his mates. I don't think he realised he was through to my voicemail. I think if I had answered the phone they would have sat around having fun at my expense.

That's the sort of annoying phone call you answer to in the middle of the night. I'm not saying they're all like that. But you definitely encounter them at that time of night.

I had a disaster last Saturday - I returned from London having had two bookings cancelled and was feeling low from being seriously out of pocket. A guy I have seen a couple of times rang wanting to book for 11pm which would normally be far too late for me but I took it as I was still feeling sore about the money I had lost over the last couple of days. He turned up with wine, having clearly had a drink and as I was ready for one myself, I indulged him - however, I couldn't get him to leave. It was past 4am by the time I got rid of him and got to bed - I didn't ring my security as it was so late and was frightened to make a fuss in case he decided to get stroppy and wake my neighbours up. Got rid of him eventually but he had nearly 4 hours off me for a one hour fee - and don't think I don't feel like a twat for not sending him on his way much earlier, but it's not always easy!

I have never before put restrictions on my working hours - I don't have anyone else living here who would be bothered, but am seriously intending to add to my website; I make more than enough working during the day and have no need of this! I have also found that the vast majority who ring me at silly o'clock are either drunk or coked, so I don't want to meet them anyway! IME, it is easy to make your money during 'office hours', and it also doesn't mean missing the decent telly.

amy that really blows....I know what you mean, I went out on tour last weekend and ended up with nothing but a cancelled booking possibly a prankster, which I really regretted going down there. By the end of last week, I was so short I thought I wouldnt be able to renew my membership this week.

However, to both Brandy and Amy, late night doesnt always mean disaster, case in point: Last saturday I was having a hell of a good time out on the town. Then I got a booking call. I was already in the main area of town, dressed and full of drinks and the location was right down the street from where I was. By the time I left the booking, it was 5 in the morning.

I didn't say it did. I did say:

I totally get that there are some guys that are nothing more serious than night owls. I live not too far from Gatwick Airport and I used to get calls from guys coming off their late shift. I am aware that not everybody works 9-5.
I am saying that your chances of stupid phone calls do increase if you're going to accept late night calls. It's not something guys do in the middle of the day is it? To some we're the late night entertainment, there's no doubt.
