Bugs and being ill.

I have always been lucky enough to have been almost  ailment and bug free even though I have always worked in close proximity with Joe Blogs. But since starting sex work I have had one thing after another. It's a nuisance as it is also costing me money. What on earth do you all do to prevent catching things and to boost your immune. I know exchanging bodily fluids doesn't help (talking saliva here) but it's getting me down now, I'm off again this week with a very bad tummy bug. Thinking of gargling and bathing  with tea tree after every client but don't think they would appreciate the after taste or smell.

Tummy bug going round at the mo, it got me and I've been 3 days on the loo/in bed with it, unable to even cam :(

we need a break and a bit of TLC but not sure
it's related to the job. Who knows?
I don't kiss, but all the rimming I do..I should
be horribly ill every week. I'm not.

I'm not sure that over-washing or excessive
gargling and antiseptics works.
It could just strip your body of it's natural
defences and leave you prone to nastier infections.

I think working with clients boosts our immune systems...
A bit like nurses...they mix with the nastiest infections
and walk around happy as Larry.
I don't know what other girls think.

I tend to agree with what cheesypeas says 'over washing/gargling can strip the body of its own natural defences' I have a dog who often licks my face (I know there will be some yucks out there lol ;D) but I very rarely get tummy bugs or coughs or colds.

Now and again I have gotten a cold sore, which I think has probably been off a client or sore skin around my lips, through rough stubble.

The worse one though was a guy had asked me to suck his balls (I had chosen not to do this in the past) but on this occasion I did, a few days later I got a quincy abcess (in my neck/throat) which I am convinced was caused through this, so I won't be doing that again

I started escorting in late 2013. That winter I got lots of tummy bugs. I had the shits at least three time - I think it was norovirus (I am one of those people who never vomits so I didn't recognise it at first.) I think I had a flu, as well. But this past winter went better. The only trouble I have had is my eyes - I have had dry, irritated eyes and that made them susceptible to conjunctivitis. But I've had no tummy bugs and never even caught any of the flus that were going around.

There may be a bit of a gauntlet to run and then you get immune to a lot of things? I know when I went into the military, everyone got ill during basic training. There's actually a specific flu virus that lives at that particular training command that has been studied by medical researchers because the whole place is like a petri dish. Pink eye also ran rampant. Everyone was ill for about four weeks and then in the fifth week you'd feel better. There are plenty of other commands where enlistees live in close quarters but something about the training command seemed unique. So, maybe you really will get better and stay mostly better.

Anyway, one thing I do is to take a lot of Vitamin D. And Omega 3 capsules. No doubt there are other immunity-boosting things out there but I haven't really looked into any of them.

When I first started I did have a recurrent viral infection, but that was I believe more a result of my then personal lifestyle - not sex work. Since I sorted that bit of my life out I've not had any issues. I get a cold perhaps twice a year, which was always quite normal for me.

I did recently have a spate of recurrent conjunctivitis, that turned out to be unrelated to sex work PLUS me not finishing a course of anti-biotic eye drops.

I agree with the not over washing or gargling.
Take your vitamins too. I guess we all have different immune systems so some are luckier than others

I totally find this too. Not so much in the tummy bug/cold sore kind of way, but I've had the dreaded BV on and off for months. Never had it before, then suddenly I can't get rid of it, even after taking loads of time off work.

Do other girls suffer this at all? How do you keep it at bay?!

Sometimes these things pop up repeatedly like thrush... yes.
I presume you get treatment and advice?
Nuisance when they keep pinging back...what did the doc give you?

I had it once...I was over-washing.
Too  much soap and scrubbing.
Doctor showed me to how to calm down
with the crazy washing and stay perfectly
clean and fresh.
It never came back.

Susie, use the lactic acid gels at least once a week, and don't use any soaps, shower gels or bath foams in that area, just aqueous cream. If it persists, ask for some treatment as it could be a deep-seated infection.

I've actually found that compared with spending 2h+ a day on trains/tube and then working in a large air-conditioned office, I've had fewer minor illnesses - touchwood!

I use balanceactiv pessaries once or twice a week, you can buy them over the counter at boots and you pop one up before bed. Keeps things calm down below.

I get ill constantly so feel your frustration. About 2/3months ago i gpt everything going all 1 after the other. I had colds, sickness bug, yet another cold, it was like one thing after another and i just thought somethings got to give cause i didn't earn any decent money in a whole month (thank god for savings) so i got some advice at a boots pharmacy and ge recommended some pretty expensive multivitamins that are specifically for also helping the immune system and also some vitamin C. I can honestly say I've never felt better and can't believe the difference. Been taking them about 2 months now and touch wood so far i haven't been ill.

I feel like, always getting a little bit of everyone elses germs helps out antibodies fight bugs, that we perhaps would ussualy catch if our body hadn't been like ehh seen it all before. (like how shots give you a little dose of the germs so your body learns to fight it) I duno just a hunch but then again I've not got (bar heat stroke but that doesn't count) since I started this job 2 years ago.

Don't get me started on my health freak things I do to stay healthy though. I've just got these probiotics in the post. The proper stuff not the yogurts and omygod it tastes like sick but It's been giving me good energy for my work day extravagazas I've been doing before I move.

I always catch cold, flu, running nose, all sorts of crap also because I keep popping into the garden for a smoke or just don't wear clothes warm enough. Also I just get tired, muscle pains etc because I'm a lazy cow and don't cook and eat my 5 a day. Anyway.

I started Floradix from Holland and Barret and it's just amazing. It tastes yummy and after only 4 days I started feeling better. Also I got vitamins from them instead of buying expensive stuff in pretty boxes from boots. Sure those tablets are huge but they are worth it.
Also I every morning I squeeze one lemon into a glass of hot water and drink it before anything else. I think I'll add Omega 3 as well as Fabulassie recommends, I used to take them and they are great.

But I strongly recommend that Floradix. It's a big bottle that lasts one month and honestly I'm really impressed at how it makes me feel better.
