Blocking numbers
« on: 15 July 2013, 08:21:21 am »
Hi, hope I'm posting in the correct section, just need some help...

I often see u talking about blocking numbers... Maybe I'm being really blonde, but can someone please advise how I can do this on an IPhone?

I've never felt the need to do it before, as I have a generic tx I normally send out when people are getting bait much but I seem to have picked up a few 'stackers' of late who just can't take the hint. One in particular is sending really nasty stuff and I would just prefer if I could block him.

Anyway thank you in advance.

Have a good day

xxx

It's not always straightforward on the iPhone. With android phones it's easy - that's what I have.

Here are a couple of links you can start off with. It seems if you have OS7 you can block SMS's.

Unfortunately Apple think they are smarter than their customers are - they know best - and they severely limit what you can do yourself. Which means if they want you to accept spam and threatening calls/texts, then too bad.

There are ways round it, but usually it means hacking the phone, which I haven't a clue how to do, and invalidates the warranty anyway. There is a swelling trade in it though because of Apple's attitude. There may be an app, but all genuine apps have to approved by Apple - so I have been told.

One of my friends bought an iPhone and had this exact same problem which made me keep well clear.

The other good thing you can do is not buy anything from [cr]Apple. Works for me ;D.

There are quite a few threads about this already on the board (try 'call blocker' or suchlike) in the Search box), but if I'm right, it's Samsung phones that have a blocking facility without you having to download anything, and I'm sure I read here recently that even the bog standard ones have this now. I use Call Blocker Pro (BlackBerry) which I think cost about two quid and has saved my sanity :D.

Iphones as work phones would worry me given some of the potential privacy issues, cross linking of devices, drop box etc I personally avoid smart phones for escorting as I just want to minimise cross-over between social media etc.  I have a cheap as chips work phone on top-up that actually offers blocking.  I get the impression the cheaper phones have much more functionality in that respect.  I use a tablet or laptop for Twitter etc but keep everything unlinked.

That's a good point. The police can find out where your phone is located if it has GPS enabled, and I can guess that hackers can do the same.
