Fake mobile numbers? Thoughts please
« on: 11 July 2013, 05:12:00 pm »
Today I answered a withheld number.
{I do this to request them to call from a non-withheld number. A lot subsequently do, so for me it's worth it}
He said this was a friends number. I explained about the new law that requires Escorts to see the number calling them.  ::)
(Yes a lot of caller believe this)
He said he was out of credit and said I could call him back.
I'm fine about that. He then gave me his 'apparent' mobile number.
I phoned him back and the first two times a voicemail says:
"You have been connected to Like a mobile. Please leave a message"
He picked up 3rd time. He had very poor English so I couldn't verify the my services
So the enquiry went no further.

I did some research and found that mobile phone companies provide a voicemail facility
where the number looks like a mobile number (07---), but it isn't actually a mobile number.
It just accesses voicemail. >>>Like here<<<
I can't find anything called: Like a mobile though.
Also, on the third call, he answered, seeming to rule out the voicemail mobile mimic service.

Thoughts anyone?

Oh this is not a big deal as my verification requests them to call from a "Staging point"
near to where I work. And a T/w would just use a throwaway SIM,
or more usually their normal phone number. It's just a bit curious for me.
Also this number wouldn't receive a MMS I sent either.

I've had messages left on my voicemail from withheld numbers asking me to return their call, giving such a number. Number turned out to either not exist or belong to someone else.

So like numbers sent to me via email, there has to be some sort of proof it's been used to call me before I'll call it ie has to be available on initial call.

I use Lyca Mobile too as my "throw away phone". It's dirty cheap. More than Lebara.
Mornings were made for sleeping, wild sex and bacon.

Like a mobile = Lyca mobile.   ;D  Got it thanks!

I know what you mean Strawberry. But I figure it's either legit or not and if not, it's a very short call on my
part. (withheld number of course) Most of the time it's legit, but often it goes nowhere for various reasons.
