Last year I was in Portsmouth for touring. I rented a 2 bed flat online for 4 days with my partner. I escort when he goes out. He is aware of what I do. Unfortunately I didn't realise the apartment had a ring camera. Somehow I missed that when I checking in. I saw the second client and I got a call from a prospect who asked for my postcode. He later called me that he was the landlord and that he is giving me an hour to evict his property or he would call the cops. I still had 3 days left out of my booking.
I refused to be rushed then he started making threats. I called bookings and asked them to intervene. They said they had no say in it. And would not be refunding me cos it was a breach of their policy (hen and stag) .it wasn't even a party. I just saw two clients. I had my deposit still hanging and my remaining balance.
My partner hates trouble , I panicked cos then I had never had anything to do with the cops. Well now the cops have visited me in my home for risk inspection so now I'm more comfortable with them. I look back and I regret panicking. Leaving my money to waste and not standing my ground.
Or what would you  have done if you were in my shoes?
Happened months before then too at a hotel. The owner approached me to leave the hotel cos I had seen two men in two days.

Well assuming the camera thing would have shown me when I arrived and the landlord called me on my work number having correctly recognised me from my ad, I would have packed up and left. I don't really see what else you could have done; running a business from the property is almost certainly in breach of the terms and if it was my apartment I wouldn't be refunding you either?

As far as the hotel goes, it sounds as if you made a bad choice and/or were very unlucky. Had you been there before?

I had something happen to me like this in the past, the creepy landlord came over and he was actually trying to pimp and blackmail me to stay there and give him money for ever client i saw, he said other girls had agreed to it in the past. I saw one more client and packed up and lift as i was scared.

If i was you i would of just left as i would of been too anxious to work. Sometimes these things happen, its why picking the right location and apartments can not always work out.

Segirl  it happened to me in Bridgewater,  cctv over the entry door and no buzz entry so had to go down to let clients in, while going down for my last client I bumped into the cleaner as well  ::),   at the end of my first full day and I had a call from the landlord,  very aggressive and shouting abuse down the phone at me.

I waited for him to finish then told him politely he could piss off as he had no proof I was charging just that I had more that one male acquaintance,  I was done for the day and eating my dinner anyhow and that it was too late to go anywhere that evening and I would vacate the next morning,  thankfully I had more than covered my costs as I'd had 3 long bookings that day.

I then finished cooking, packed all my stuff and drove out to a days Inn on the motorway as he was threatening to be there at 7am to make sure I left and I didn't want conflict.

I was actually only working that day and 1 booking the next morning as I was there for a wedding and decided to do an extra day to pay for the cost of going to the wedding so it was no big deal but very unpleasant,  I booked a little B&B closer to the venue for the following 2 nights 🙂

All you can do is walk away and stay safe, it's a very unpleasant experience, just be more vigilant when booking accommodation in future and don't beat yourself up about it x

If the landlord called the OP on her work phone pretending to be a punter then he did have proof though, which is a bit different to just a hunch because there were male visitors. How else would he have the number if he hadn't found and recognised her from her ad?

As everybody else has said, it's unpleasant and a pain, but it happens and hopefully you're just a bit embarrassed and out of pocket. The next place will be better :)

I worked from an apartment where I realised after the first visitor that every single intercom buzz went straight to the landlord to authorise!?!
I was on the top floor and ended up having to get clients to wait outside and I had to trundle up and down in the lift!

I think if i saw a ring door bell when checked in i would try to black out the camera with some paper and tape and if the owner said anything i would say it's uncomfortable being spied on and i am in my right to not feel uncomfortable. I would also just tell clients not to ring the bell when they arrived but call me.

The thing about ring door bells is that at the slightest motion close to it proximity it alerts the owner.

I've learnt that the safest bet is an hotel with so many rooms and an elevator that isn't key card. But the downside to that is that I have to stop working by 12am since that's when the door usually gets shut

I had a similar case in Glasgow 2 years ago.  The camera was inside the apartment above the front door.  I covered it because I didn't want them to observe.  After 1 hour, the owner called me to take the cover off the camera.  I didn't do it.  He call and sent the police to the apartment.  I showed the police that I did not agree to surveillance suitable for private video recording.  The police did nothing.  I left the property the next morning.

Am surprised the cops showed up and surely it’s not legal to film inside!!
