Title: Beds and sheets!
Post by: TheChemist on 22 July 2014, 02:07:48 pm
A mundane one, sorry girls:

Can anyone recommend sheets that will take lots of washing at high temps? Is highest thread count the one to go for, or a poly blend?

For watersports, can anyone recommend a completely waterproof mattress protector or shall I resign myself to peeing all over the kitchen floor?

I'm also changing my bed (mine broke!). I don't want to spend too much as I'm saving right now, and it's also our own bed and therefore there will be no tax breaks. Shall I risk one of the pricier IKEA divans with guarantee or go for a bed frame? What will take lots of bouncing? I'm quite an aggressive f*cker during my recreational sex  ;D

For W/S I lay the client in the bath and hook my feet where the handles are then shoot all over them, or if there is no bath I get them to sit in a shower basin. I never pee on them in a bed or floor-way to messy for me!

If you look on Gumtree there are loads of perfectly good, cheap, second hand beds. Enjoy :D

+1 on the watersports - I did once buy one of those protective waterproof fitted sheets but you've still got to get from there to the shower afterwards, so unless you want it going everywhere I'd stick to the bathroom too.

I'm looking at beds on Ikea myself, so I'll be interested in other's experiences there. I'm too squeamish and too much of a germophobe to buy a secondhand one, as silly as it is :-\.

There's a white divan type one which comes with a mattress for around ?500 I think - going to look net week. I thought maybe a divan might be sturdier?

I seem to remember they have a guarantee though, which is good, if I fail to mention the hundreds of large men I've been shagging on it hehehe.

I remember seeing a gizmo for watersports at Regulation in Islington. It was a bit like an inflatable paddling pool, but in black. You could place it somewhere not too far from the bathroom, so the pee-soaked client won't drip all over the place.

Have tried lots and found that divans are definitely sturdier and quieter  ;D

I'm far too tight fisted...instantly caught myself thinking about cheapo paddling pools and how I could DIY them to look sexier ;)

Great bedding 100% cotton and high thread count can be found in TKmax and they are pretty reasonable for the quality that you get.
As far as beds go get a divan and remove the wheels so that you don't end up on the other side of the room. Argos do great deals :-)

I agree about the cotton - I don't like synthetic fibres at all and whilst I'm about as eco-friendly as it's possible to be in every other day-to-day sense, I like to boil work linens.

Am off for a root on Argos (and good tip about the wheels - I can't be the only person who's tumbled down the back of a hotel bed after failing to realise it's moved two feet from the wall :D). That said, my current work bed is a cheapo pine one which cost ?100 and I just nailed the slats from my old bed to it to reinforce it - it's a bit wobbly, but it's done four years.

Thanks for the tips! Will go for divan on wheels and good cotton sheets.

I'm the same amy: I recycle everything, grow my own organic veg, and am super mean with the heating and hot water (apart from when clients are over) but cummy sheets must be annihilated!

Don't buy a cheap divan because they are often crap
and tend to make a creaking noise after a while as they are very thin

Wooden beds with pine slats are good as you can repair them easily and strengthen them with a bit of wood and some nails

I have a waterbed in my home and when I used to take appointments shagging on that was fun/ interesting ( felt sea sick a few times)

But considering how much you can pay for a decent bed and mattress  ice seen mattress for like ?800 my water bed cost me ?1000 and I've had it almost 9 years and it's never leaked or broke or needed replacing and it's heated so bliss in the winter when it's cold

I don't think I've ever seen one! I'm intrigued. I might try to find a second hand sturdy oak/pine one then. I'm pretty handy so I'm confident I can reinforce it (and BFs dad used to be a chippy)

Waterbed does sound great, apart from the sea sickness bit. I occasionally get that from shagging on normal beds!!

If it starts to squeaks a shot of WD40 around the bolts /nails often sorts it out

For watersports I also use the bath but if you want good quality sheets that will take a lot of washing and still come out looking like they are just out of the packet and easy to iron too then you just cannot beat these ones. They are not cheap but Ive had mine for about 3 years now and there is not a single fray, the sheen is the same, they look amazing still?

I can't really help you with the waterproof stuff - I just go into the bath for watersports. But for the sheets, this is what I do:

I bought lots of cheap flat sheets at Asda in a cream colour. About a dozen. And several extra pillow cases. When a client comes in, I put a fresh sheet down on top of the duvet.  So, I change the sheet for each client and can change the duvet cover when needed. (I also have a separate duvet for my personal use when I sleep over). I change the pillow cases frequently as even though I cover them with the sheet they will often pull them out and position them to suit themselves, so I will change those if I think they're dirty or have even a whiff of sweat on them.

Really cheap sheets work fine for this and if they wear out, who cares? They've very cheap to replace.

Very high thread counts may pill. They also will take longer to dry.

I do the same as Kimberly , otherwise I end up inside the Duvet cover every time I change it
I have never yet been able to put a duvet cover on a quilt without getting tangled up ,pissed off and confused every time I attempt to do it

Is there some magic formula to being able to put a cover in a duvet without getting tangled up :)

I use big fitted sheets like this because they already have the elastic bits at the corners (if you buy king size ones they go right round the bed and duvet easily) and then stick a colourful throw on top. You can get all sorts of these from the likes of T Maxx and they wash and dry in no time (I take them touring because you can wash them in the bath and hang them over the doors to dry for an hour or so).

Some of the catalogue places have really cheap pillowcases, sheets and quilt covers - I've got some from La Redoute that cost virtually feck all and I've had them for years. As for the wood frame bed (which I've always had - I've never bought a divan) along with the extra slats I put in you can fix something to the back to stop the headboard banging against the wall and apparently talc in the joints is good if they creak.

I only found mine got wobbly after it had been taken apart and put back together a couple of times when I was moving house - I would think the way to keep them in good order is to leave them alone once they're put together.

Wash the cover inside out, then stick your arms right inside it to the bottom corners and pick up the corners of the duvet through it. Then shake the cover back over it right way out - if you do it at the top of the stairs it's even easier (my mum told me and she's even shorter than I am :D).

Right I will try this Amy - but if you don't hear from me by the end of the weekend send our a rescue party for me-

I am the same. Cheap stuff in the same or similar colours. Only under my sheet I have waterproof mattress cover - I am a big squirter:)

As per duvet - I hate doing it too. So I simple don't. No duvet on my bed. Most of my bookings are 30 min, nobody is coming to snuggle under duvet! I put duvet cover on the top of my bed and that's it.
If I had longer booking or overnight - well, then it would be worth the effort, indeed.

Yes there is! I cleaned holiday cottages every Saturday for over a year before I learned the trick...

Turn the duvet cover inside out. Stick your arms into it and grab the far corners, pinching them in your fingers. With your finger pinchers, grab the corners of the duvet and pick it up, sort of shaking the cover down over the duvet.

At work I have a duvet under the cover but I use the massive throws that go down to the ground all the way around and smaller throws over the top of them to lay on. Sainsburys do fantastic huge throws that dont fade and that wash well without stretching into funny shape and they dry very fast too. That way if the small throw gets spunky i can just replace it and if its hot and sweaty I can wash and dry the whole lot in about 90 minutes x

I have been considering actually using the duvet and sheets during the winter though, I have not done this before often at work. Is it popular or do the guys still prefer to just be on top?

In the end I bought a bed in the Warren Evans sale (bought for half price). I'm usually a bit of a cheapskate but I thought in this case a cheaper bed would be a false economy. They all have 10 years guarantee and everything is handmade in London. Good enough for me!

The only think about 100 % cotton sheets is they get so creased and if you need to tumble dry them they look awful. I have them on my own bed but always iron them, I certainly wouldn't be doing all that to change them every hour. I'd need a new iron every six months!!! Lol. I've got some really nice quality poly cottons from John Lewis. They feels  different from the cotton but dry without wrinkles and in amazing super gas time on the airer. No competition for fast changes. I just think it depends on the quality. If you buy better quality they last much better for more washes too. I always get plain bbc white the add cushions, bedspread accord end Tec. Matalan cool for this stuff. John Lewis sale on now too.
Ikea beds are long lasting.recommend!

My cheap sheets aren't all cotton and they still wrinkle. I won't iron them, though. That's madness when you're using them for 30 minutes or an hour! I'll just make a joke about it as I spread it over the bed.

It's funny to notice which men will just stand there and which will help pull the sheet from the other side of the bed. I always gush about how sweet and nice mannered they are when they do that. But I don't actually think they SHOULD help. I just think it's funny.

I always spread the sheet in front of them because I want them to notice that I've taken a clean sheet from a stack of them. I let them see me take it to the laundry closet, as well. Same with the towels - all neatly folded on a shelf for them so they know they're perfectly clean.
