Banners on websites
« on: 20 September 2008, 09:24:59 pm »
I have done my own website using the rareescorts.com design for free but it, along with all the directories such as punterlink, AW etc all say you need to use their banners.

If anyone out there can explain how to do this in normal everyday english language can you help me out please.  i have a couple on my site now but the only way i got them on there was by saving the image to my files and then inserting it.  its only a picture (as apposed to a link which i think is what it is supposed to be) and i dont know why all the html stuff is showing aswell.  When i try to set it up as a link it asks for a title (easy, i can do that bit),  the page url (it says that is just the www.adultwork.com etc) and then it asks for the banner url??? i thought this was all the jargon that comes with it (on e-scorts it only has the jargon.  you cant save a pic of it to files at all)  but when i copy and paste this stuff in it says "this is not a valid image url".... what am i doing wrong?  how do i do this?   the website stuff was going so well too until now lol

If they are sensible (yes, I know) then there should be an easy to follow receipe but the basic idea is

Code: [Select]
<a href="http://www.saafe.info/">
<img src="http://www.saafe.info/images/saafeban2.gif"
</a>

First line: it's a link ('a href') and when it's clicked on, go to the site in quotes.

Second line: here's where the image is. Many places want you to make a copy and plonk it on your webhost. This means it can't change without you changing it; it doesn't cost them anything if you got two million visitors; and, most useful, they don't know how many people see it. In this case, it'd be something like

Code: [Select]
<img src="http://www.sexforcash.co.uk/saafeban2.gif"

or whatever your site is called and wherever you've saved it.

Third line: end of the link.

If you're using an editor that hides the HTML from you, look in its help for how to have an image, then make it a link.

Alternative methods exist. One useful one, if your webhost allows it, is to have copies of the banners on your site and have the link done via a script (a tiny program) on your site. That way, you get to see where your visitors go...
'The Ian formerly known as SW5'. What they said: "Indispensable", "You are our best resource", and (hours later!) "I'm afraid that you're being made redundant..."

Hi Lexie I am not sure if my banners are right but the directories seem to have approved them - I inserted the pic like you then created a link.

My site I click on the banner and choose setup and it says links to various stuff I chose web and put the website address of the directory worked for me although I am not sure if it is right. They say they will check the link and then post the listing so I guess it is ok.

Yours might be in the edit tools bit under links or something. I wouldn't do html it is confusing try changing the option to less advanced.

Oh, ha ha when I had my old site this was a problem for me - think it took me 2hrs to figure out how to do it whereupon I discovered it's something that takes about 30 seconds, but I thought that might just be for a moonfruit site, it obviously works with others too though.

Hi Lexie, try this... it should work for you.

Login to your site and click Dashboard then View Banners.
Look for your image URL code next to the banner you wish to place (after <img src='  on the 2nd line)
eg: (http://yoursitename.myescortpage.com/banners/youradultwrkbanner120x80.gif)

Highlight your image URL code between the quote marks only (as above) then right click and select copy.

Now click the Manage tab on your Dashboard.
Click Edit next to Age Check.
Scroll down below your Age Check text, highlight and delete any previous images and code you have already inserted.

Click in the blank space below everything else, then click the Insert Image link on the editor menu (looks like a small tree) to insert a new banner image and a small pop up window will open.

Click in the box where it says Image URL then right click and select paste (to insert image URL you copied earlier). Just make sure there are no single quote marks like '  ' before http or at either end of .gif (if there are any, delete them or the link wont work).

Your banner should show in the Image Preview window.
Name the banner where it says Title then click Insert and pop up will close.

Now click on the banner image on your page to select it and click the Hyperlink button on the editor menu (looks like a small chain link - not the broken one) and small pop up window will open.

Where it says Link URL: Type in the URL of the page you are linking to eg: (http://www.yourbanners_homepage_name.com).

Where it says Target, select: Open in new window _blank and click Insert.
Then click Update at the foot of the editor and click on your homepage link to view your changes.

Good luck  :)

I'm really not technical. I set up a links page on my moonfruit website. Although Punterlink insisted their banner on front page. So you may find some places asking for front page, others put on your links page. I know I double click on their banner and then I can save it in my pictures folder. Then when I'm adding it I just have to put their web details in a box that appears on moonfruit. I really don't know the site you are usings format but certainly moonfruit is quite straightforward for someone as me...fool proof I think the word is lol. Hope you get it sorted. Let us know how you get on x

Always amuses me when sites say they want a front page banner. If everyone specified that then how on earth are you going to have a clear page that advertises yourself? As well as the other sites who want to be on there!

Oh, it's not hard, have a look at my site. Since we're offering adult-only services, it's normal to have an entry page where you confirm that you want to see the site. I've combined this with my links page, I think it's quite neat.
