travelling abroad for a booking
« on: 03 April 2010, 11:02:26 pm »
Hi everyone, hope you're having a great easter break,

I was wondering, if you get a booking in another country- what should you expect the agency to provide?

apart from the room being payed for, should I expect the airline tickets, travel expenses to the hotel all to be payed for?

If the agency asks you to buy the tickets your self, that they will reimburse you- does that set of any alarm bells?

much love,
Luccia

I have an Evil Emily rule for things like this: Do not pay for anything yourself (unless it's something you can easily afford or your Tesco shopping). If it's something to benefit a client/agency, let them sort it out and that way, you'll never be in the position, two weeks down the line, of trying desperately to get your money back from someone who WAS sensible enough to deal with you anonymously and not put up any cash, and who is certainly not going to answer your calls.

This rule applies doubly to agency dealings. I've been abroad with clients twice (and never again! But that's a different essay :P) and both times, the agencies made sure the client paid for everything up front for me. It was a basic measure of timewaster-avoidance.

Yes. Just because the voices are evil, doesn't mean they are not telling the truth. At least that's what Evil Ian tells me :)

If this is a real booking, you can bet that the agency is making a pile of money on it, and they can do something for that, including taking the risk. Just about the only reason I can think of for not letting them handle it is if you don't want them to know your 'real' name, and then you want the ticket money upfront first before you buy it. Probably even if it is totally refundable.
'The Ian formerly known as SW5'. What they said: "Indispensable", "You are our best resource", and (hours later!) "I'm afraid that you're being made redundant..."

darn- booked them already- let's c how this pans out... was told the client will pay for them, when I see him. Been told he is well trusted by the agency- i'm gambling here. Thanx for the advice though, and next time, I will do as you guys have said- I would feel more peaceful.
