Mature and returning to the industry.
« on: 01 February 2021, 02:27:23 am »
Hi,

Before I had kids, I was a sex worker. I worked in a brothel and they'd take 50%.

Well, now I'm a middle aged woman who is also a carer for a disabled teenager. Finding work hours that fit in with being a carer, is just too difficult. Don't worry, my teenager is okay for a few hours a day, here and there. I wouldn't be leaving someone who can't fend for themselves entirely. (People get all about angry without knowing the full circumstances). Anyhoo, Centrelink (our version of Social Security) is mucking me around and my carer pension has stopped even though my son still needs care 75% of the week. So, as I live in a rural area, it's too expensive to live anywhere else, and "locals" only give employment opportunities to their 500 relatives, there's little else I can do for work.

It's been a long time since last did sex work but, at least, the internet shows me that my age isn't a problem. Brothels seem to want younger woman on their books and, well, I'm in my late 40s. Brothels might be safer but I'm not what they're looking for. Are there others here who are more mature in age and are their own boss? I know that it's non existent with the current pandemic, I'm just asking. I'm wanting to know about safety, how to go about it - particularly in a rural area, and any other advice.

The world has changed in the 20 years since I quit sex work. What should I know?

Go  independent don’t pay any more your hard earned money. Do research hiere and open adult work profile first.

I'm in my 40s and have always been independent; it has never occurred to me to work for an agency or brothel.

I live in a big city, and only do outcalls, mostly to hotels although I will consider residential addresses if the client is known to me.

With regards to safety, I have a strict screening process, boundaries that I won't change for anyone and whenever I go to see a client, someone always knows where I am. For the way I work, Adultwork isn't the best platform, but it works well for many. If you're rural, it be particularly good for you if your area is low on independent sex workers - make an account and look at see what is on offer in your locale, what the prices are and what services are offered. Research, research, research!

As the PP said, do your research here and read everything. Think about where you want to work? Can you host incalls, if not, is there someone local to you that you could rent/hire as and when you need it. If you want to work set hours, think about if you want to take advance bookings or do you want to rely on same day bookings. What kind of services will you offer? Do you want lots of short appointments or longer sessions? Do you want to charge a flat rate with extras, or an inclusive price?

Best advice I can think of is to figure out what will work best for you. Once you know what that is, then you can work out the finer details.

The OP isn't in the UK, so Adultwork is going to be of no use to her whatsoever.

I'm 48 and have no difficulty finding work - you can find advertising resources by Googling as if you were a punter looking for somebody to book to get ideas. Don't worry about fancy marketing, my pictures were all done on my phone and I manage fine.

You can find info here on the forum with the Search box on the top right too - I came back to work in late 2007 having only ever used the internet for buying things on ebay and had no idea about websites and so on, but it's easy to pick up and punters haven't changed a bit ;D.

Hi BushBrandy,

going by the 'Centrelink' comment I am assuming you're an Aussie? (and I am sure they'll sort your claim out in... 10 years  :FF  )

There's a heap of websites to advertise on, however the ones that seemed worth it (for me) were 'Scarlet Blue' and 'Escorts&Babes.' AdultWork is pretty much non existent.

TMM, how long have you been in the industry x

On and off for a decade, maybe a little more, (albeit on a part-time basis).

Why?

Probably best to message me directly if you have any more questions rather than hijack OP's thread.

I'm in my 40s and have always been indie - again I'm UK but I see no reason for Aus to be any different. I get plenty of work through incalls.

I see lots of Aussie ladies advertising on Twitter - probably worth looking at a few sex worker accounts on there and seeing who they follow and what groups are available to help out indies.
And me, I am not a mess, I am a wilderness, yes
