Attack on advertising in papers?
« on: 07 March 2008, 01:24:48 pm »
I've heard that several papers have become a lot more sniffy about accepting sex work ads, following discussions between the newspapers' trade associations and ministers with an 'anti' agenda.

Even if you don't use them, has anyone noticed ads disappearing from their local papers recently?

I don't read the back of my local papers, but I have been reading on Punternet that they're no longer accepting ads from escorts due to pressures from Harriet Harman and her ilk. I'm not really suprised it happened. Even six years ago when I first advertised from the back of my local papers, back then they were really funny about the wording and what I could and couldn't write. In one Sussex paper I couldn't even say "black", I had to say "Afro-Carribean". That's how touchy they were back then. So it's come of no suprise that some papers are just not accepting ads anymore. I've always found it a bit of a tentative minefield.

Yes in Sussex the local 'Advertisers' are no longer taking Escort/Agency/Parlour Ads.  However, the Friday Ad is still accepting them and maybe thats because they are an advertising paper rather than a news paper with an advertising section.

Friday Ads, at least in the areas I've seen copies, is on my list of shame because of the number of ads they carry for operations they've been repeatedly told are scams.

I've posted an analysis of the ones in the Guildford edition recently, somewhere, but I think out of ten 'agency' ads, nine were scams.
