Asking for screenshot of hotel booking
« on: 17 April 2019, 11:46:48 pm »
It's ages since I did an outcall and I have a potential booking to a hotel next week. My journey would be over an hour so I'm wondering whether to ask him for proof that he's booked the hotel. I would normally call his room before setting out but I can't realistically expect him to be there considering how early I have to leave the house.
Does it sound like a good idea to get a screenshot of his hotel booking?

Yes, I ask them for this if they aren't going to be in for a call. Or I tell them I am not travelling even a foot without that confirmation call.

I would want a deposit for that distance.
I'm glad I got all the Cynthia Payne books before the prices rocked to sky high.

Yes and many will provide this, or at least a reference number and name so you can check the booking.

Once upon a time I only found out a booking was cancelled by looking at the room booking, which I'd checked when accepting. It was cancelled when I looked at confirmation time.

Never did get in touch again, and he had paid me a deposit which obviously he lost.

Hi,

This is very helpful.
Would you mind me asking this?
How could a third party check the client's booking status (if he has checked in) by using the reference number and full name?
Could this be done by accessing the hotel website?    I am assuming that the hotel would not tell a third party if he is booked or checked in.

Would you ask the hotel, "Is Mr.---- booked for today, has he checked in yet, here is his reference number?"   I doubt if this would go down well... the hotel might ask "who are you?".
I must add that I am quite behind today's standard.

Any insight, appreciated.  :)

Thanks everyone, good advice. Funnily enough he's gone silent now so I guess he was a timewaster anyway!
But I will ask for screenshot and deposit from now on.

Some hotels have booking checkers on their website, or third party booking sites.

Always ask for a deposit for outcall I have had them cancelled while I was driving to them.

I made the mistake of letting a reg book a hotel room for an overnight as a deposit

He cancelled last minute I got no deposit and had planned  a tour with that town as my starting point.
It as a right mess the town was a 3 hour drive from home.

I went to the hotel I had been there on tour a week earlier so got hardly any calls as it was too soon to go back and of course he kept on about how he was great because he paid for my hotel room then he turned up for a 30 min booking and got cross because I made him pay for it.
The hotel was £50 a night cheap  rate as he prepaid no money back.

Moral of the story cash deposit by vouchers in future

If it's before he's checked in, you can call the hotel and say "Hi, I'm just double checking my colleague is booked in for the night - it's Harry Smith and the reference number is 1234567."

If he's already there, call the hotel and ask to be put through to his room. Note: not all hotels have phones in rooms these days. Travelodge, Premier Inns, Ibis Styles, Days Inn (basically the budget chains.)
And me, I am not a mess, I am a wilderness, yes

I've done this, also some hotel websites just need either email, surname and booking reference to check the booking.
