Asked for employment details, any suggestions what to put??

Hello All

Have a bit of a (thankfully minor this time) dilemma and was hoping for some feedback/suggestions as to what you all think is the best thing to do.

Basically myself and boyfriend have applied to a letting agency to privately rent a flat and the agents have asked for our employment details before they can approve the lease. Thankfully my boyfriend has full time gainful dayjob employment so thats fine and dandy but the question is what on earth do i say i do for a living??

I am registered self employed as an escort and her Majesty's customs have never so much as raised an eyebrow however i fear that giving the same answer to a letting agent may result in a burning pitchforks and lynching style scenario!

I have just resigned from my day job as well on the grounds that i hate the sight of everyone in the organisation,i am planning on getting another part time job but at the moment escorting is my only source of income. I can more than afford to cover my rent but what on earth do i say to letting agents, party planner, horse whisperer, image consultant to the stars?? I just don't know.

Any suggestions much appreciated,i will put the best ones in a hat and do a prize drawer,my future is in your hands ;)

So you could be life coach - therapist - counsellor ............... any good ????

Good luck

Hi Alexandra

Counsellor could be a good one as I'm actually doing a counselling qualification at college with a hope to going on to a degree afterwards so i suppose its not a million miles away from the truth (sort of)

Life coach also has interesting possabilities,i can just throw the letting agents off scent with some semi incomprehensible pep talk ;D

cheers

Yes I would agree with the suggestions so far "therapist" covers a multitude of sins ha ha x

All the very best with your studies. Hope you pursue counselling to the diploma level.

I believe in staying close to the truth and something that wont trip yourselves up, whether cover stories, for tax purposes, letting a flat. Keep it simple many girl put down counselling, therapists, consultants.

Well having got past the bit about saying what i do for a living,I'm a now officially a counsellor before Ive even qualified, impressive eh? ;)
Letting agents are now asking for my accountants details because I'm registered as self employed, only problem being that i don't have an accountant (only been working for a couple of months) i keep my own books etc though,I'm just a bit concerned about how i might as a counsellor explain having condoms down as an allowable expense :-[

Suddenly getting a job in a call centre seems a strangely attractive idea, still puzzling as to how I'm gonna work round this one!

do you have to have an accountant?  I know someone who had an interior design business for 2 years before she got a proper accountant, i assume she did it all herself at first??  cant you tell him you only been on your own for a few months so havent appointed one yet?

i think it is fine to tell them that you are not that long in business and many small enterprises and self employed in whatever sector don't have an accountant, and i think that holds true especially for life coaching and counseling

hi fallingstar

i just thought that you even could explain that you put the condoms on tax relieve as a counselor, if you state you are running a support organization or anything for youth (teenagers)

Hi

Having an accountant can help you with letting references etc, as well as helping to reduce your tax bill.
