Arriving by taxi
« on: 18 May 2016, 09:13:42 am »
Just wanted to know how you girls deal with clients arriving by taxi, more relevant to those that work from a quiet residential area like me. I find it really stressful getting them in and out discreetly.

I've had guys in the taxi asking for my door number and guys walking down my street on the phone following direction, loudly! Also a lot don't pre order the taxi at the end so they expect to hang around waiting for one.

I'm considering stopping clients that don't have a car.

Once they are settled at yours, make sure to remind them to pre order a taxi.
That's tricky one. Your neighbours can easily find out what you are up to if they really want to, but does it matter?

I don't let them have anything beyond the neighbouring road until they are OUT OF THE TAXI.

I make this clear and that they must not expect the cab driver to be driving down my actual road.

Just remind them the location is discreet and must be kept that way.

People coming by taxi are not allowed to get the taxi to my street.  They are dropped off outside a hotel very near to my place and then have a short walk to get to me.  Taxi drivers are gossips, if they get too many different men being dropped of at the same place in a residential road I worry that they will soon figure out what's going on.

Just get them to get the cab to another location close to your place, and explain its to keep things discreet, any reasonable person will understand this, they can order the taxi back as they leave, then by the time they have walked to their pick up point they wont have a long wait.

I'm quite lucky as I'm near a little parade of shops, so I get them to tell the cab driver to drop them there before calling me, then going home there's a mini cab office a 5 minute walk the other way from my house. But I've only ever had one or two. It is a pain, I agree.

My friend orders and pays for the taxi with a driver she knows and this combats the problem.

Might be an idea? It does work for her.

She cancelled a hotel booking whilst on tour last week though as pulling up in a taxi at our location just wouldn't have worked. Client was less than happy! We got chucked out the day after so gut instinct was right.

Thanks girls for your advice, it's the idiotic few that make it stressful and yes one of my worries was taxi driver gossip, I think I'm gonna knock it on the head as it really stresses me out!

I'm on excellent terms with the neighbours and want it to stay that way so yes of course it matters x

Luckily most people come by car - ocassionally by train and they are a pain often as they then need extensive walking directions.

If too many started to come by taxi I don't think I would bother with them.

I'm a taxi ride from the nearest station so get maybe 1 or 2 a month getting a train then taxi, it's not gonna have a big impact on my earnings so not going to bother

I understood that your neighbours didn't know and you might be worried what if they find out. I think my neighbours have an idea what was going on (I don't work from home anymore) after a while, but they have chosen not to see ;) so my suggestion was that yours probably wouldn't be bothered....
Still, we don't want every taxi driver to talk about it.

I find it an absolute pain in the arse. From my locations I have a place I tell them to park and get them to call from the car where I can see them. With taxis it's a mission as I have to get them to get dropped off elsewhere. Then walk to landmark. Also, some days I ditch the appointment system and do a first come first served. Not so bad if they are waiting in the car. But a pain if wandering about. Trouble is you will always get the odd dick that tells you he's driving and still comes by taxi.
I'm glad I got all the Cynthia Payne books before the prices rocked to sky high.

When working incall I would give them a neutral place to be dropped off, which was usually a carpark used to access a mixture of businesses and residential properties in the area. There was nothing there to connect them to my place, which wasn't in view - just a short walk away. I'd provide directions from the drop off to a place where they could see my door, at which point I'd point it out. At all times I explained my procedure and gave good estimations of journey times firstly to drop off, then the few minutes walk.

I even learned to advise on suitable coat, brolly etc after a few arrived soaked not having thought about the inclement weather!

Yeah it's kind of a pain but I've rarely had to deal with that luckily. There is a shopping area with a big car park and cash machines at the top of the road near me so I just tell them to get dropped off there same as people in their own car then tell them to call me for directions when I know they are there. When it came to the taxi home told them to call one and tell them to pick them up there so they have to leave and walk back there. Stops them hanging around waiting for the taxi.

Thankfully most drive a couple have got the bus since it stops outside that same area of shops then called me.  Regulars thankfully know where I am so I just tell them to text they are on their way when they get to that point. Only cancelled once for a guy coming in a taxi because he was getting fussy about wanting my address before he comes then started saying "Why are you being so secretive?" he was probably an address collector anyway it's like a 5 minute walk from that car park there isn't a reason why they can't do that I don't want people constantly parking up in the residents car park and annoying the neighbours.

I think its often not the client at fault but the nosey taxi driver dropping them off at the other end of the street so they're calling 10 minutes away! I avoid taxi's at all costs.  :FF
