Not a mailing list from the website, as anybody could subscribe (most likely timewasters), but I keep a list of emailadresses of regulars. Make sure to ask their permission first though.

I often send an email during slow periods, or when I have something special in mind.

Letting anyone subscribe is much of the point if you're using it for promotion! They might be interested enough to join but not book at the time, then whenever they get an email you're in their mind again. Having timewasters on a mailing list is no more of a problem than timewasters looking at any of your other ads.

Ive never done this myself due to the fact that there seems to be widespread paranoia about unsolicited messages. I fear it would cause more bother than its worth.
There are other ways of raising your profile such as message boards and blogs and what not.
What we could do with is a proper brainstorming session on our various methods and swap  ideas.
Its a shame we dont have a live chatroom on Saafe.
