Help! A client admitted to video taping us
« on: 23 February 2012, 09:55:22 am »
Without my consent ad profile states I don't allow filming or pics of any kind.

What can I do about it?

I feel sick and violated.

Does he know he's committed a criminal offence? This is very likely to count as voyeurism. What contact details do you have?

He's from the US an I have full name, business website, phones numbers, email.

I met him last Decemeber and he said last night he liked to watch our tape back. I didn't want to flip out at the time but I told him I wasn't happy :-/

I can't remember if you are in the USA - if so, you need to ask someone in your state about the local position. He may have committed an offence, but the stupid laws around prostitution complicate things for you.

Either way, I would be tempted to invite him to show it to you, ideally on a laptop or pc, then give him the choice of you wiping the disc - you can download software which when you start up the computer wipes everything beyond hope of recovery - or calling the police. For a camera or phone, you want the memory card or call the police.

I bet you're not the only one he's done this to, and he also probably doesn't have proper backups... Oooh, tough choice time, but it will help to stop him doing it again.

Then you can contact the police about this issue without fear of getting into trouble yourself, thankfully!

You may still wish to do so with the support of either a caring friend or a caring sex worker support organisation. We have info on some of these organisations here on the forum (in the "Sex Work Projects" section), and a Google search might find more near you; alternatively, if you still cannot find a local project, you could probably contact any other one (or someone at your local GUM clinic) and ask them to help you find a full list.

If you are in London, I believe the Praed Street project comes recommended by forum members (you can search for mentions of "praed" on here if you want to check) and could almost certainly give you some support and advice on this matter. It says on their site that they are able to discuss both "difficult issues at work" and "legal issues", amongst other things, during drop-in sessions.

Of course, you might feel perfectly fine going to the police by yourself - if so, feel more than free to disregard the above. :) I just mention it because it could be of help when dealing with such a difficult and unpleasant situation as this particular nasty client has put you in.

That's great, thanks for your advice.

I will have a look at what you've suggested and see what's best to do. It's nice to know there's support out there for these things.

What would be really useful, and a decent sex work project should be able to help with, is a chat with a sympathetic police officer about what they'd do about this.

What a twat!  How did he manage to do it?  Was it during an incall or outcall?

Also, could you PM me his number please so I can put a block on him.

It was on an outcall and he had his laptop open but the screen was blank so I didn't realise it was on. He used the webcam so god knows who else has seen it!

I will PM you now Sequin

I got that you are angry, but maybe you can call the client and tell him that you have his full details and if he will publish the tape you will head a process to the court? You can go to the sex project organisation but they are not going to run intercontinental wanted letter as the person lives in states. If you want to sue him then you will have to go to the court and proceeded everything with the court which takes lot of time and traveling to the US. Is it better to him and then see what will happens?

He came in the morning and woke me up with killer instinct. Wish I could stop this now.

My suggestion remains talk to a friendly police officer.

If they would arrest him, yippee. Even a stint in the cells with his laptop seized for evidence purposes for months is going to be a deterrent to ever doing this again. Getting him a caution / conviction for a sexual offence would be a delightful bonus.

If they wouldn't, then see above - he doesn't know that they wouldn't and a wiped laptop is also going to be a deterrent to ever doing this again...
