Abnormal smear (pap tests) and working in this job
« on: 04 July 2013, 10:54:49 am »
Is there a correlation between working in this profession and having abnormal smear results?

I don't want to go off track, as I know this is predominantly an escort forum etc, but I had an abnormal one in 2010, then another that same year when I was called back for my recall that same year, then another and another.

The nurse doesn't know what I do, but she implied it was to do with the number of partners I have had!!  :o I hate having them, they are painful etc. When I get tested, they ask me to do urine samples for chlamydia etc which have all been negative. I don't even mind blood being taken as much for when I have been tested for HIV, Hep C. But I burst into tears this morning getting (yet another) pap smear, as the nurse implied it was to do with the amount of sexual partners I have had and made me feel dirty.

Has anyone else had abnormal smears and is it in any way correlated with working in this job?  :'( How did you deal with it?

Well the number of sexual partners somebody's had is nothing to do with whether or not they were paid to have them, so the answer would be no. From what you say about the nurse I would be looking for a better clinic.

That's exactly what I mean Amy!  :-[ I had this smear done at my GP surgery, but as you say, I am going to have my smears done elsewhere in future :(

The 'number of partners' link is really a 'number of partners without using condoms' one, so yes, I'd find somewhere less judgemental to have smears in future.
'The Ian formerly known as SW5'. What they said: "Indispensable", "You are our best resource", and (hours later!) "I'm afraid that you're being made redundant..."

It's the best way, I think. I go to the GUM for the usual prossie checks, but had my last smear test at the doctors and the disgusted look the nurse gave me when I explained about my job (the doctor always used to do it but now the nurse clinic does) was so OTT it was almost funny, but I can see how some people would rightly have been upset by it. I won't have it there again, either.
