I briefly spoke to a lawyer friend ( also a former client )earlier today, and told him exactly the same what you said - that i have heard that the person who takes the photos owns them, and you can't do anything about it. He said he will contact his friend who specialises in harrasement law.
I am meeting the lawyer tomorrow, and until then i will leave the profile unreported. I will see what he (the lawyer) says.
If the pics were taken in your flat (a private place)
then you can complain with the full force of the (civil) law to AW.
The person does not have the right to publish said pics
because (I'm guessing) that you did not agree
in writing to consent to publication of said pics
and they were taken for personal use only.
AW terms of service will prohibit using other peoples pics without their consent.
AW will take the pics down.
Is your lawyer an expert in Infringement of intellectual property rights?
I'm guessing not. So that will be a waste of time and your money.
Your complaint about usage of your image, is not a criminal matter
so the police would not be interested.
I thought about the implied blackmail threat.
Yes the police 'MAY' look at this angle.
But does this speedily get your pics removed, in such a way that you can
then just move on with your life? No.
You do not want to be in contact with the police.
It will not achieve your aim faster than contacting AW.
The object of the exercise is to get the pics removed.
AW will do this with minimal effort.
