Wow this is worrying, I don't like the idea of a cashless society.

I've been using cracker/backpage for years as I find it has great world wide coverage and perfect for most countries. I've noticed 2 things about either sites payment system;

1. Every so often it does not want to take card payment but the option usually comes back within a day or too.

2. Despite topping up in the same country, I am yet to find that I have been billed by the same company on at least 2 of the transactions. They seem to have multiple company's from all around the world taking the payments. I think this is the reason that we encounter various problems with the payment system. It obviously depends on which company is billing us at that particular time.

My advice is, wait a few hours or at the worst a few days but keep trying.

Ladies: I would be extremely careful with using your debit card on backpage. I got 2,000 pounds stolen from my account last year, the only time I ever used my debit card was to pay my backpage ads (I NEVER withdrew money from an ATM or bought anything with that card, it was ONLY used on backpage). My money was taken by Chinese hackers. I believe there's something very dodgy going on with the backpage card payments. I don't trust it. Since that happened to me I created another parallel bank account (separated from my big account) with a separate debit card where I put my petty cash for advertising, "risky" payments or online shopping. I never have more than 300 pounds in it. This is to prevent my big fat account from being hacked. I sleep better at night  now :-)

I agree, there is definitely something dodgy about it. You will see what I mean if you read my early post on this thread.

The Chinese were shopping with my card Jan to March 2016. They started with small amounts, which I never noticed (my fault) until the day they tried a payment of 2,000 which got blocked by my bank. All the small payments were then refunded by my bank as they were tracked back to China but the total was around 300. I remember writing about it somewhere on SAAFE.

OMG! Exactly the SAME thing that happened to me! My bank also refunded me my money, but the Chinese started withdrawing small amounts until they tried to withdrew 2000 and I got a text from my bank to aprove so I said "no". A hacker friend of mine told me "Never save your debit card details when given the option" (backpage has that option when you make a payment) because that's how the Chinese hackers get your details.

I didn't have my card details saved, I never use the "save" option anywhere. My bank told me it was a textbook cloning case. And they could tell it was in China because all those transactions were showing from China. On the Easter weekend one of my relatives had Uber payments for a few hundred quid in...Austria. That's a lot of taxi rides ! Thank god banks are competent enough now to quickly refund us.

The card option won't work for me today :(
It keeps saying "billing state length must be between 2 and 50"
Anyone else got this response or know what it means?

Mine was fine today.
I'm glad I got all the Cynthia Payne books before the prices rocked to sky high.

Yes something really really dodgy about Backpage. I once received a credit for $11,000 and quickly advised them. Would hate to think what would happen if I hadnt.
