*URGENT!* Accepting credit cards!
« on: 12 November 2009, 07:51:02 pm »
Hola!

Ive got an appointment on Sunday, but he needs to pay a deposit...I thought it would be fine taking it through paypal, but they're not taking the credit card - and wont give me a reason why!

I have no doubt he has the money, but does anyone have any other way of taking a payment by credit card??

I don't know how to link different forum topics to a thread, but I know some ladies take amazon vouchers/phone top up vouchers rather than a credit card payment. Not sure what you think about this- if you type in amazon voucher into the search box in the top right of the screen, it should show you previous forum threads about taking a deposit this way.

There are many other systems like paypal, although you'll both need to sign up to use them and like paypal they don't approve of our sort.

Unless you can't afford the fare otherwise I'd go for amazon. The vouchers can't be retracted as far as I know (unlike paypal etc.) and you can use them for your christmas shopping.

Naa...nochex takes two days to confirm your details and open an account, and I need to sort it out well before then. I don't know why Paypal is being so rude about not taking credit cards, but I'm not the only one having issues with it..and I just dont shop on Amazon enough to get this much in vouchers. :( Boo!

Ahh well, Ive told him to wire it through western union or do a bank transfer. I cant be arsed with all the fuss now. Bloody paypal!

Another way (although again it takes time to set up) is if you have a business account, to name it something else so it's not named in your real name. That way you can ask clients to insert money on "Tiddles" account, sort code blah, blah, etc without disclosing your real name and info.

Another advantage, is that if the name chosen is anonymous enough (so, not Tiddles then  ;)) then it should really just look like another  business payment  on the client's bank statements. As opposed to "Honey, who's that Miss Cum, Candy receiving ?100 from your/our account?!"

I am in process of renaming my existing account but it just takes lots of time for the bank to process it all. Then I'll road test it first by transferring from my other funds just to check what name comes out on the other bank statement.

Hi Melody
I decided to use western union when getting a deposit from an overseas client recently. One of the advantages over paypal is that you get the money in cash as well.
Good luck, Sarita xx

(I hope it's okay that I am reviving some of these old threads -- I'm reading through the archives and finding lots of good stuff and also some questions/comments to make. Let me know if not and I'll stop posting to them. :) )

I thought the problem with Western Union is that the other person has to know your name, and a secret password is not enough. I called them to verify this a little while ago and that's what they said. Anyone know anything else to the contrary?

Yes you have to give your real name if you use Western Union, but I've done two overseas bookings in the past couple of weeks and taken the deposits via WU.  I did it on the basis that I shouldn't be visiting these guys if I don't trust them sufficiently to give them my name.   I had both of their real names and addresses too, plus more information about them and it all worked out fine.

it used to be the case that you could collect up to six hundred pounds sterling and only have to answer the secret question, plus have the security code at western union. Any more than that and you and the sender need to verify your identity due to money laundering laws. I dont think it has changed, but I remember one thing well, make sure the details you give are perfect, match word for word and you have no deviations. I was stood near the realto bridge in venice with passport explaining that my middle name had no hypen, even though I had passport, id number and secret question. I did not get the cash, and if that happens the person sending it has every right to get it back..

Consider the money shop. You can load the card at any store using the card number, and the funds are available in 20 mins. You can load up to 2 k per month unverified and 5k per month verified, the client just has to pay the fee into any branch using the number and name. The card is called titanium mastercard, and I think their fee is 5 per month. Other than this you could sell the client a service on aw, organise a bank transfer (lol lol) or sit on your hands and hope for the best... :P
