Title: TUC voted against decriminalisation of sex work

Will be writing a response to left foot forward site and to the TUC. Does anyone know of any good research pieces or stats I can use to provide counter evidence to their claims?

Am incensed by their decision not to recognise sex work as valid work and their reasons for it. It seems the majority of indoor independent sex workers dont exist to the researchers they've listened to!

Infuriating.

The problem with this article is that it doesn't look at the actual repercussions of the different legal models - it's all just based on emotion. It's just a reductive 'sex work is bad, therefore we must make it illegal'. Okay, so if coercion/trafficking is a problem then decrim isn't going to make that worse - in fact the opposite. Same goes for the claims of rape and violence - decrim will help sex workers feel confident reporting rape and violence.

I always compare it to restrictions on abortions - no matter your moral objections to abortion it's a fact that people will still have them so it might as well be made safe.

I think SCOT-PEP have a good factsheet for stats (specifically for countering the nordic model)

This link does not work.  Please see try to post the correct link as I too would like to voice my views on this matter.

(I plan to use the arguments for consensual prostitution presented by Dr Bateman in the media this past March.  To see it for yourself, just Google "Dr Bateman on consensual prostitution".  The article concerned was the subject of the post at http://www.saafe.info/main/index.php?topic=37804.msg287269#msg287269).

Many thanks.
