The story of someone who did agree to do TV...
« on: 08 January 2020, 09:51:48 pm »
The actual show that resulted is apparently on this weekend, so they've reposted this Twitter thread (their choice to have all the text in images, not mine!)

Covered at the time in the Metro: metro.co.uk/2019/08/09/sex-workers-blast-louis-theroux-shocking-claims-manipulated-new-show-10546870/
'The Ian formerly known as SW5'. What they said: "Indispensable", "You are our best resource", and (hours later!) "I'm afraid that you're being made redundant..."

Thanks for share. Sounds like the show will be biased and cringey to watch  :-\. Why silence the interviewed women's voices-in the name of public interest?
I actually watched Theroux show in 2003 about the Nevada brothel and enjoyed it.

This reality shows and so called documentaries have already a laid out narrative of the story, usually people participating tend to be a little like props. I find it very shocking that theroux was not aware of the SESTA/FOSTA laws and how the implement of these by the US government has changed so much the landscape of the sex industry. A documentary about selling  sex on the internet that doesn't address this issue is a bit like a joke.
Mornings were made for sleeping, wild sex and bacon.

For most UK-based escorts (and indeed clients) SESTA/FOSTA is not such a big issue.

Various .com directories have either gone entirely or dropped any US regional services, like AW. But that one never had more than a tiny US presence in the first place.

Yep.

I was reading her post on twitter regarding her experiences with this "selling sex" documentary and it was a bit of a cringey read. I mean... she sounds like a very nice but naive girl, I mean: girl, what made you think that Theroux and his team were going to fullfill your agenda/narrative? have you ever watched this man on TV?  he's quite a self entitled twit with a massive ego (my opinion, sorry). On the other hand I'm actually quite glad that in the age of twitter she got to voice her experience publicly, gave her side to the story and was even posted on a newspaper.
