Student sex work
« on: 13 March 2018, 02:30:28 pm »
Hi all,

I'm writing another piece for BuzzFeed News about sex work, this time about students and sex work specifically. I'm particularly interested to hear from anyone who has come to an arrangement with their landlord in lieu of paying rent while at university in the UK.

My email address is hannah.al-othman@buzzfeed.com, or my Twitter DMs are open: @HannahAlothman.

Thanks and best wishes,
Hannah

I'm pretty sure that most people renting have an arrangement with their landlords - we call it a tenancy agreement? The landlords charge rent and tenants pay it, although I'm by no means an expert since the last time I rented anything was in 1993.

Or do you think that sex workers are more likely to have sex with an unscrupulous landlord for free than civvies, when we're far more likely to earn enough to pay it several times over than somebody having to flip burgers in between lectures and college work? I think you'll find we're marginally less likely to let some random bloke maul us about for nothing than an irritable polar bear, at least if previous discussions here are anything to go by. When we can earn enough to pay it a month's rent in a handful of hours, why would we?

Totally agree.

Something simillar was covered by bbc3 not to long ago (5/3/2018). I won't be posting link but it's easy to find online.

It's nothing new and already been discussed by another media several times.

Apologies if my post wasn't clear - I'm specifically looking for students, who identify as sex workers or not, who have sex with their landlord instead of paying rent. Yes, this issue in general has been explored, but I'm looking at it specifically in the context of students.

That's what she's saying, that it's highly unlikely a sex worker student would need to do this as the earnings of this job are so high.
I have seen it's become a popular topic of discussion but I don't think it's sex workers who are engaged in this exchange, far more likely to be vulnerable financially struggling students than sex worker students

And it's unlikely you'll find non sex worker students on a sex work forum, you're better off going on student forums

Yeah they seem to be talking about it absolutely everywhere! It's great these things can be discussed but surely there's more original topics that could be explored further
