Researching old SoHo hostess bars/ 'clip joints'
« on: 17 January 2017, 02:57:32 pm »
Hello

These days I'm a freelance journalist, but back in 2006 when I was still a student I used to work in a SoHo 'hostess bar' (the taste of cheap champagne mixed with ginger ale still haunts me).

I'm researching a feature on the history of these seemingly-forgotten bars and am looking to speak to women who worked in them and are happy to share their memories. The feature will hopefully be a mixture of my own first-person experience and interviews with other women.

If anyone had any experience of these places in the 90s/ early 00s and would like to talk about it, or has any pointers for me, my email address is jessica.b.writer@gmail.com.

Thanks a lot for letting me post here!

I worked in the Capricorn at age of 25. Still remember the taste of the horrible champagne. The DJ Tim was a total prick. The two bosses weren't that nice either.
I'm glad I got all the Cynthia Payne books before the prices rocked to sky high.

I did the Capricorn club, too, as well as the Windmill and Astral Club. A friend also did the Stork club.

Ahhhh amazing! I didn't realise The Windmill was a clip joint too, thought it was just a regular strip club ? had a friend who worked there for a short while. It's crazy how much Soho has changed in ten years.

If any of you are up for speaking to me ? I can keep you anonymous ? please send me an email on jessica.b.writer@gmail.com! Unless we can message each other on here? I haven't work out how!
