Petition: Forced Registration of Sex Workers
« on: 18 September 2012, 01:31:50 pm »
From UKNSWP:

Petitioning The Members of the Senate of the Netherlands:
Stop Forced Registration of Sex Workers

Sex workers and sex worker rights supporters from around the world, are extremely concerned about the new Dutch Bill that forces individual sex workers to register themselves as prostitutes. We consider mandatory registration as stigmatising and as a violation of the right to privacy of sex workers. Moreover, there is no evidence that mandatory registration of sex workers helps to combat abuses such as trafficking. The undersigned call on you to respect sex workers and sex workers rights and to vote against the law.

NB: You don't have to fill in the address and postcode fields; I just put 'x' in each and it went through fine :)

Signed it - this is really squick - surely the only people who should be forced to register on a list are sex offenders?

My day job is in politics, I would recommend writing to your MEP (you can give them your working name, and express that you don't wish for your contact details to be kept on file) about this and asking for them to bring the matter up with the European Parliament.

A niggling thing in the back of my mind is that if it passes the Dutch MEPs will try and push it through the EP too.
