Title: New Social media for sexworkers
Post by: SimplySinful on 29 March 2018, 03:15:47 pm
Not sure where to put this, can?t see it mentioned anywhere on Saafe yet...

In the wake of SESTA/FOSTA a new Social Media site has been launched: switter.at run by sexworkers for sexworkers. There are some who are thinking there must be an ulterior motive but for now I?m taking it at face value.

Information about it and links are all over Twitter if you want to join!

A lot of us here don't have twitter accounts (me included), would you be so kind as too provide a name for that social media?

thanks,

ana

Yes it's in my original post but you may have missed it as it's very similar to Twitter: type in switter.at (no www.) and it'll come up.

There are over 17,000 members now, so I can safely say it?s being used as a back up for regular Twitter users.  It is what we make of it, and right now it?s growing hugely.

Many US advertising sites have gone down in the last 24 hrs, as well as reports of websites being summarily taken down.

In view of the fact Twitter may be affected by FOSTA/SESTA switter.at could well become pretty important for US Providers, and anyone who uses Twitter as a marketing tool.

I joined but havent used it.
I saw this tweet today which seems like they are rolling out some sort of verification process similar to AW, which I dont really like the sound of so wont be attempting to use it
twitter. com/msjennalove/status/985540248062124032?s=21

AW is problematic as it is to get verified on for some, so I wonder how this will go down. There is also some talk about reviews being allowed on there, not sure how true it is.

Ill be sticking to Twitter.

Edit: Seems like this is for the *forums* section of Switter, didnt know there was one, and not sure if this will be just for the forums section. It seems there is new rules or changes all the time.

Ill still be sticking to Twitter, works for me :D

What do you guys think of it? Is anyone getting business from switter? I see it more of a social media/experiment for sex workers but not sure about the business side of it...

Let me know your thoughts.

xx

Nope, I've had none but I'm there mostly for back up should Twitter no longer be an option. I could be more active there tbh but I'm not really feeling switter atm, it's feels odd and clunky.
I'm frustrated how I can tweet my toots with an app but not toot my tweets, I keep tweeting not tooting. I'm not sure clients have migrated there like providers have, I'm mostly seeing others providers so it may be some time before bookings start appearing imo.
(I do like the word toot/tooting though)

I think they're having teething problems at least I hope that's what it is.

I think it's taken them aback that such huge numbers have joined and there's a few things they haven't thought through.

There's Switter, then there's the forum. They have suspended asking for verification for the forum but you need to be a switter member to join it.

What I initially understood was that the forum was for sex workers only (hence verification needed) however I joined, had a quick glance and it didn't seem to be the case.

The other thing that's worrying is it's more like a forum mentality on the main Switter Platform, seems like a lot of hobbyists have joined and guys giving out mini reviews on there.

A lot are against reviews as in the US there was such a toxic culture with hobbyists dictating terms on sites like TER and what I understood from Switter initially was that it would be set up without a review culture and that this was what the majority wanted.

Like I said hopefully teething problems and they will sort this all out.

As to getting business from there I think it's a bit too soon to expect that especially in the UK. It seems US ladies are getting some but of course I can't verify that.

I'm not sure if I can put this link here but here's a short article about Switter and how they have been doing so far (including being kicked off Cloudflare  :o )

Assembly4 are also starting a new advertising platform for sex workers, called Tryst: https://tryst.at/sign_up

Why would assembly four who are behind switter make another advertising platform??? Either they have zero marketing skills or there's divisions inside the platform and none of the things are good news. It's like adultwork owners having a fight a creating "another platform". Confusing.

Switter is similar to Twitter. It's a free social media platform with its limitations when comes to advertising.
I think that Tryst will me more like a proper directory and you'll have to pay to advertise.
Creating and running Switter takes a lot of work and time and these 3 people behind it are doing it all for free.
So Tryst will be a source of income for them as well as a proper advertising platform for sex workers.
That's how I see it.
I have a lot of respect for them for being so proactive and helping the community and it's sad really that out of all 100,000 Switter users, less than 100 people (less than 0.1%  :() are donating to their Patreon and LiberaPay.
