From 9% to 11%...like they don't get enough of our money anyway :(

We are getting increased pension rights - there was a time when self-employed didn't.

Apart from that there are various views on this.

Personally, I feel it's unfair. As an employee I got contributions to my pension, subsidised private medical insurance, bereavement leave, 30 days annual holiday, sick leave, redundancy payment etc. etc. Being self-employed I get nada. It's annoying when there are so many huge corporations not paying millions in tax, and the government goes after comparative peanuts from individuals instead.

Plus, more people - myself included - went self-employed because of a dire job market. Surely it's to be encouraged?

Was there any more about the quarterly tax returns? Another PITA.

Exactly my gripes with paying the amount of NI we pay in the first place.

What they are going to achieve is more "black" economy...because people will try to hide their earnings in order to avoid all extra taxes... ???

Unless you earn under ?7000 (ish) a year and want to keep access to state pension then you are still hit with a massive increase as class 2 is going to be abolished.

I thought it is the other way around. Abolishing class 2 reduces outgoings for those earning more than the threshold, and the amount those under the threshold have to pay to purchase pension NICs will treble.
