Migrant sex workers forum-London June 26th
« on: 18 June 2019, 12:11:54 am »
Decrim Now, SWARM and Xtalk are hosting a migrant sex worker forum in London on Wednesday 26th June.

open to *all migrant workers in the adult and sex industry* - why?

Because up to 70% of the sex industry in London are migrant workers. For the last decade, national governments and local council authorities have used concerns about trafficking in the sex industry as a cover to create a hostile environment for migrants in the sex industry. Raids on premises, closure of clubs, arrests and deportations have done next to nothing to address instances of forced and coerced labour in the sex industry. Instead, workers have been made to endure humiliating and terrifying raids and bosses now have even more power and migrant workers have been forced further into the margins and as a result into more dangerous and precarious sex work.

We need to win the full decriminalisation of sex work and  change the regulation of sex entertainment venues. We need a union at work and we need to change legislation that affects our work. The reason we need to do both at the same time is to ensure that decriminalisation is in the interest of workers and not just bosses. Specifically, we need to make sure that any changes are in the interests of migrant workers - who are the majority of the industry. Decriminalisation without unionisation  and collective organising means that workers run the risk of being exposed to the forces of the market without the protection of collective bargaining and labour rights.

Please DM me to reserve a spot, tell me about any access needs you have and also for the East London venue address. Translators will be available - please let me know if you need or other workers need language translation support.
