Title: MALE ESCORT SCAM?
Post by: bootcamp on 28 January 2009, 04:04:44 pm
Hey,

I'm a BBC journalist - looking into male escort scams.  I've done a bit of 'undercover' work speaking to a company called Golden Knights.  After various phone calls with a woman called 'Chloe' I've now reached the stage where she's asking for a payment into a bank account of about ?300.  Naturally, this is before I get any bookings.

I don't doubt this is a scam but on searching your site and Google generally, I can't find any mention of it.  Is anyone aware of it?

Any thoughts very welcome!

Hi and welcome.
Funnily enough I had an email not too long ago from a guy that told me Golden Knights was trying to reel him in. Apparently they're listed as Golden Knight Promotions Ltd, with a seemingly kosher registered number and everything, so it looks the real deal. He wrote to me first (thank God) and asked my advice. They wanted ?295 "registration fee for a period of 12 months". I told him a thousand times no.

This is the outfit in question: www.goldenknights.uk.com

I think I vaguely remember passing this one the other night when I was ploughing through Google looking for something else ;D. There is a scam agency called Cavendish Knights too which could be linked.

I believe that these places advertise in mens mags too - you could try contacting FHM and the like. To be fair, you won't have to look far - these scams are ten-a-penny as you will know from reading this site. There is a good section on the main site about spotting them - and anywhere that asks you for cash upfront definitely meets the criteria.

If you do a programme can you get those two blokes from Wakefield (I think the 'agency' was called Rebeccas) to be in it? That should demonstrate beyond doubt for anyone watching why these places are talking bollocks and will also be funny as f*ck for the rest of us  ;D

Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Thanks Brandy, thanks Amy!

So, here's the question - after days of talking on the phone to 'chloe' and convincing her I'm worthwhile bait....what do I say to her now?

Should I tell her I know it's a scam or fob her off?  A tricky one.  I'll be getting a call today because this afternoon was the dealine if was going to be going on my 'date' this evening.   ???

I guess it depends.  What do you hope to gain from her?  I image if you just tell her you wont have the cash till next week or so it will atleast keep her in dialouge for a while. if you tell her your on to her she probably wont call you again and i assume she hasnt and wont give you her contact number so that will be the last you hear of her.

I had one of these people call me last year but i didnt trust it so luckily never handed cash over.  Couldnt you keep us all amused at there expense for a while and keep them strung along.  just keep telling them you will have the money next week and see how long it takes before they get sick of you.  It would serve them right for ripping people off.

Like i said, i suppose it depends on what you want from them.  What is it your doing that got you interested in them in the first place? if you dont mind me asking? (if its top secret stuff we promise we wont tell  ;) )

Hmmm, I have a friend who works for the beeb as an investigative reporter,He always keeps going with the flow of the story until He gets told otherwise, or found out, which is very likely to happen to you, now you have given so much detail on here.

Nahh, the scams use the same lines on everyone so they wouldnt know who bootcamp is from any of the other poor sods they are trying to scam cash out of (as long as you havent been silly enough to tell them your working name is bootcamp!!).  i think it depends on what bootcamp wants, what kind of story s/he is after and where it is leading.  I cant imagine its a tv thing because most people couldnt give a toss if escorts are being ripped off or not.  I suppose it depends on the angle you are going for.  I hope its a good one though and you get the bastards proper.   ;D

And why only Male escort scams?  they work just as hard at getting women.

Why have you called yourself bootcamp by the way? it doesnt really go with the mission if im honest!!?  On a much less serious note we could start a thread on a more appropriate name.  Im going with  miss marple (actually we already have one of those ;D )

I dunno. Make your excuses and leave. That's what most journos do. Sorry, I couldn't resist that one.
Tell her that you've just been informed that they're a scam, and you've decided not go any further with them. I'd personally be interested in hearing what they'd have to say to that. See how far they'd go to part you with your cash.

Wish I was doing a big expose but you're right, most people aren't that bothered about these scams...the reaction tends to be: "Well if you're thick enough to get caught out then it serves you right."

Not sure what I think about it but, in my experience of various scams, the players in this one are particularly good at what they do.  The 'models wanted' scams tend to be pretty shoddy and the fake restaurant with ridiculous wine bills scams in Europe have some very clever girls working for them.  The soho clip joints one is crude but frighteningly effective.  But this Golden Knights one is up there with the best, I'd say.

It's been fun playing them at their own game for a while but I do feel bad for the guys getting conned, even if it is playing on their egos.  I admit it openly, I got scammed years ago, and it still pisses me off how gullible I was! :)

Well I ignored the calls last night and was treated to a number of increasingly angry voice messages.  I have really let a client down apparently.   ;D  I always end up feeling a bit sad that these people I speak to are such good actors, such clever, quick minded people and they're spending their lives doing something so cruel and empty and pointless.  But if there's a cross-over between journalism and escorting, I think (and correct me if I'm wrong) it's that you learn how pathetically shallow and desperate people can be sometimes.  You can really see the gloomy, lonely side of humanity.

I used to work for a scam company (unrelated to escorting). People knew it was a scam, sounded like a scam...and still got scammed. We would say the most convincing things and people would lay down thousands of dollars every day.

After a year or so I decided I just could not continue to decieve people that way anymore, even though the company was managed by someone else. We werent really lying, but were leaving out details and that was enough to make a deal. Sick Job and I regret doing it.

I picked up a copy of The Star in a coffee shop this afternoon....bit of light reading after The Guardian. Anyway, fast track to the 'personal/sexy' ads page. Guess what? At least half a dozen box ads "Earn ?1000s, no escorting experience needed", "Gigolos required", "Male escorts wanted"...........

How about some pressure on the advertising media? They seem to respond instantly when certain ministers implied they could be seen as supporting criminal activities by allowing girls and agencies to advertise for trade!

I missed this - they look like yet another new name for the lot in Spain where what you're doing is paying hundreds of quid to advertise to yourself.

Someone in BBC Cardiff did a good job on them, but the stream of names is never ending because people keep falling for it. (The most I heard about was five or six times!)

What would be interesting would be getting someone hired by them to work on the phone lines. They'd need to be female...

Also, looking for free sex online is well-known to be a risky activity. But I'm sure you'll hit the jackpot one day, just keep on lookin'. ;D

I also feel that by joining the free Adult contact sites, you may be further compromising the likelihood of anyone actually offering you money to shag them, when they know they you will do it for nothing following the exchange of a couple of poorly composed txt-speak emails and a blurry mobile phone picture of a fanny with shaving rash  ;D.

Greetings,

Before we get down to buisness,
Me: Male escort and adult entertainer for the past 10 years
Lived in: South Beach, LA and Manhattan.. Now based in central London

There is no such a thing as escort agencies providing female clients to male escorts, not in the UK. Now the only REAL market that I know from experience is in NYC where I worked 2 seasons, indeed there is the only place in the world where I had between 1/2 females a week calling me from having seen one of my webpages and also trough one of the 2 top agencies I worked with, so yes a couple of agencies will provide work "as extra" for those who dont mind escorting females BUT escort is primarily and 99% male to male then male providing to straight couples and finally to single ladies..

Anything else saying otherwise is a scam.

Cheers x

These sorts of ads also perpetuate the myth that there is a market for male escorts - which is why I get the odd client asking how he can set up as one.

Sorry to hear of your dilemma. But unless you paid with a credit card, I'm afraid that money's gone for good. There's no recourse for scam agencies like these, which is why they can make so much money from naive people such as yourselves.

These scammers are now using forums to reel guys' in. escortagencyjobs.com disappeared very quickly, however I've spotted a new site where a FAKE 'Brian' likes to encourage newbie's to buy all sorts of rubbish such as websites and books. Brian claims to be really busy with clients, but surprisingly he spends a lot of time on the forum chatting. Then we have fake Angelica, read the posts carefully and whatever you do don't think about joining or responding. The whole set up is a confidence trick. If you can't spot the con then its sale for them. Go to the forum! SCAM FAKE ESCORT SITE with lots and lots and lots of links SCAM 'vipmaleescort.com'

I don't believe he did - Ryan referred to my eight month old post at the start of the thread and was apparently of the belief that I had some sort of burning interest in/query about Golden Knights.

I have advised him of his misapprehension via PM and hopefully have cleared up any confusion  ;D.

In which case I agree. You don't call members on this site unless invited to do so. The numbers on escorts' sites are for (prospective) customers, not random people.

Hi,

I have seen your comment with regards to Cavendish Knights and I must say that I somewhat disagree.

I came across Cavendish Knights in a Google search as I was looking for someone to escort me to a wedding.  With somewhat trepidation I contacted them and much to my surprise they were very professional indeed and since then I have used them several times and so have a few of my friends without any problems at all.

I'm sure like me that there are lot's of women out there who need this service from time to time and there are scams out there who cannot be trusted.

Well you may feel that this was worth digging up a thread over a year old for but, a/ nobody is likely to believe you, and b/if you are a punter, you're on the wrong site.

Years of experience and testimony from many, many people who have been ripped off by these jokers and their compadres is far more plausible then some vague posting about how you think social-only male escorting is great, and you and all your friends do it all the time. Why would anyone go to such trouble to find an ancient thread, join a  forum for sex workers and post to big up a company they unless they have some vested interest in it? Sorry, but the Platinum Select folk got in plenty of times before you, and we're pretty used to the MO now.
