A Leicestershire man has been jailed for 19 years for raping three sex workers.

Albert Newton, from Loughborough, targeted women advertising their services through an escort website. On each occasion, he agreed a specific amount of money for named sex acts, but his actions showed he had no intention of paying.

His first victim travelled from Nottinghamshire to Loughborough having been promised payment. Instead of paying in advance and taking her to his residence as agreed, he attacked her in a nearby park and raped her, abandoning her in an unfamiliar town without paying her. He met his second victim in a hotel room, overpowered her and raped her. His third victim agreed to meet him in her own home. He provided a small amount of money for a brief sexual encounter, then trapped her inside, raping her repeatedly.

He was tried at Leicester Crown Court and found guilty of five counts of rape, one count of attempted rape and one count of false imprisonment, for trapping his third victim in her home. He was sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court to 19 years in prison, with an extended licence of eight years.

Lawrence English, Head of the CPS East Midlands rape and serious sexual offences team said: "Albert Newton has shown he is a highly dangerous man, preying on sex workers and luring them into a position of vulnerability with the promise of payment.

"Sex workers are particularly vulnerable to sexual offences. The law is clear that any form of sex without consent is rape, regardless of whether consent is given on the basis of a financial transaction. The evidence in this case showed that Albert Newton thought he could get away with his conduct because his victims were sex workers.

"The seriousness of Newton's offending, and the risk he poses to society are reflected in the sentence handed down by the court. He demonstrated a clear pattern of offending, with escalating levels of violence and intimidation. The rapes he committed against his vulnerable victims were so serious that the court imposed the 19-year sentence on all of them."

Albert Newton was sentenced to 19 years for each of the five offences of rape, to six years for the attempted rape and three years for the false imprisonment. He will serve these sentences concurrently. The extended licence means he will continue to be monitored even after release.

He was also tried for rape and assault occasioning actual bodily harm on a fourth victim, but was acquitted on these counts. As well as this significant sentence, he was handed a sexual harm prevention order, which restricts his internet usage and prohibits him from seeking to pay for sexual activity.

I'm really happy the police and courts took it seriously its a pity we don't hear much about it in the press too deter potential attackers of sex workers off.

No this isn't Mr Ward.

Thanks for the reply, it just sounded similar to his antics, conning and abandoning a woman in an unfamiliar town, etc.

I haven't heard of Mr Ward overpowering anyone, only being nasty with his words. We also know that Mr Ward is hus real name. So before I even googled Leicestershire and this man's name for the full details, I was fairly sure it wasn't him.

My god, I seen this man maybe 2-3 years ago. I felt uneasy with him but he didn't do anything. Then maybe 6 months after that he went to see a friend of mine and attacked her. So glad he's been locked away now.
