Fiona Jones, Assistant Producer for Renegade Pictures is making a documentary featuring the Hampshire WI and their campaign to legalise brothels. Not to be confusing, whilst prostitution itself is legal, the running and keeping of brothels are not.
Recently the Hampshire Women's Institute had put forward a resolution to urge the government to look into the safety of prostitutes, which gained 100% yes vote by its 7000 members. As part of the Channel 4 documentary two ladies (Jean and Shirley) travelled to Amsterdam, Nevada and New Zealand to investigate the effects various laws had on prostitution there.
During the week of the 16th June, women from the Hampshire Women?s Institute will be talking to various authority figures in Hampshire and on the 21st June they will be bringing the campaign to the public?s attention with a rally in Southampton. If anybody would like to go and can get to the coast, the rally will take place on the 21st June at Watts Park, (behind the Civic Centre) Southampton, between 2-5 pm. The rally will be filmed as part of a 90 minute prime-time documentary for Channel 4. Jean and Shirley will also be presenting a petition to Westminster.
