Anyone had this or checked it out yet?
« on: 06 April 2007, 08:26:17 pm »
I've had an email from a PHD student at Keele university. Details at:

http://www.academic-survey.co.uk/

Anyone else got it or got as far as checking the student's credentials?

Just been on the Keele uni website and here she is:

If we invited said research student to join the fourm (maybe setting up a seperate one), are a few of you happy to contribute?

I know Matthew, who she names as one of her supervisors.

He's been wonderful in relation to the criminalisation of HIV transmission.

Hi,
this is Suzanne, the author of the survey. Thanks ever so much to those who have already completed the survey - it's much appreciated. Although it is officially launched next week (I didn't want it to get swamped by the holiday weekend junk mail), the survey is now open and can be accessed directly at: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=79692939370#

If anyone needs any further clarification about either me or the survey, please do ask away. Otherwise, thanks again for any contribution members can provide, and all the very best to you - have a wonderful weekend ~ Suzanne

Hi there

This is both a final appeal for escorts who might be willing to participate in a confidential online survey and a thank you to those who have already done so.

A reminder was sent out this evening as a final appeal for escorts willing to participate in this survey, which will close on Tuesday 8th May. Please do contribute by then if you can, and please do pass this on to any other sex workers, male or female, that you feel are eligible.

Thank you very much to those who have already contributed or have contacted me by email; many of your comments have been provocative and enlightening.

I will shortly be in touch with those who have indicated that they may be willing to take part in an interview with me. There are unfortunately a number of survey participants who having indicated that they would consider an interview, but have not left me a contact email address. Unfortunately, as the survey was totally anonymous I have no way of tracing you to follow this up ? so please do contact me soon!!

Thanks again,
I wish you well,
Suzanne

Just to let you know that I can now give some preliminary results from the survey. In total I received 635 responses , 483 of which I deemed valid and complete. This was made up of 298 females (62%) 155 Males (32%) and 29 (6%) Trans/other.  Of these, 39% report as hetero/straight, 21.6% as lesbian/gay and 36.4% as bisexual (with 41% of female respondents reporting as bisexual). Over half of the responses were from the UK, with many others form the USA, Canada, Australia and South Africa.

The survey responses suggest some interesting differences that seem to be related to gender and sexuality, but it wouldn?t be methodologically sound to publicise these as yet as I wouldn?t want to jeopardise the validity of the data that I collect from participants who have kindly agreed to take part in follow up interviews.

Clearly I haven?t been able to thank those who took part in the survey unless they left their email address for interview purposes as the survey was anonymous, but I am certainly very grateful for their input.

I am looking forward to meeting those men and women who have agreed to be interviewed over the summer and hope to be able to report back with more substantial findings from the research by the end of the year. I will also notify of any publicaitons relating to the research findings. If anyone would like to know anything more about the research or survey results in the meantime, please do email me directly at suzannejenkins@academic-survey.co.uk.

All the best for now, Suzanne.
