I'm a third year student at Bristol University looking to interview a few Bristol-based escorts as part of my dissertation. My dissertation is about prostitution in the Roman empire, but I feel talking to women like yourself would give me an understanding of the topic that I wouldn't have otherwise.

I would be hoping to record the interview on a dictaphone, but if you are not comfortable with this I would simply take notes. All interviews will be completely anonymous and used only for the dissertation. You do not have to answer any questions you are not comfortable with and can terminate the interview at any time. Nothing you say off the record will be included in my dissertation. We could meet in private or public for as long as you are willing to speak to me.

I'd have to agree with Sarah -- I don't think you're going to find many parallels between Ancient Rome and modern sex work. Even if did want to compare and contrast attitudes/work then and now, it does also seem to be beyond the scope of an undergraduate dissertation (might make a good PhD chapter though ...)

There's a great book called Sex and Punishment by a lawyer-journalist called Eric Berkowitz which has several chapters dedicated to the ancient world, and prostitution is frequently dealt with.

Would also be interested in seeing some ID or you letting us know how you'll verify that you're actually a student...

Lol.  I feel like I've been around for ages, maybe I'm an old relic from the Roman days! 

I love ancient history, I'd love to know about prostitution in the old world but I don't know how a modern day prostitute would be able to help you.  Without knowing how they worked in the old days how would you know what type of prostitute to interview?  I mean did they work for themselves, for a pimp, in a brothel, on the streets etc.  I know it's the oldest profession in the world, I am sure it has changed over that vast amount of time.
