Blood Donation Survey
« on: 28 May 2016, 10:41:35 pm »
Hi Everyone!

I'm currently volunteering for SWISH and they've asked me to help them to distribute a survey about blood donation. As the law currently stands all sex workers, past or present are banned from giving blood for life. I don't know about you but donated blood saved my best friends life and I would be happy to give blood so that I could help others. With blood shortages becoming more and more common the government is going to meet to review the law and SWISH has been invited. They are hoping that the data collected from this survey will help give evidence that a change in the law so that we CAN give blood is an entirely sensible thing to do.

Anyway; here's the survey and thanks in advance to anyone who completes it: Blood donation survey click this link to take you to the survey  https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/PFX5M2D

Best wishes,
Happy Whore

It is sad to see such an outdated, medically unfounded practice supported by sheer ignorance and prejudice that exist on the NHS! ::)

Agree its ridiculous to refuse the blood of somebody just because they sell/buy sexual services, I didn't realise that rule is extended to partners too, an ex used to give blood very often.  Nobody knows what any individual gets up to in private and the blood is screened anyway isn't it? It comes down to the stigma of sex work that we must all be high risk of disease, but I certainly never get that impression of the NHS when I go for check ups. Anyway I've filled in the survey giving my 2p worth :-)

I agree with newbieNW and katrina above - I gave blood regularly from 17 till I started escorting, and in my opinion most of us sex workers are way safer in our sexual practices than people who get drunk and have one night stands - there's nothing on the form asking if you do that regularly but receive money for sex just once and you're apparently tainted for life!

Thanks for the opportunity to weigh in on an issue that is very important to me!

Thanks for sharing.  I gave blood a couple of times before I started working and I wish I was still allowed to.

Completed
I believe sex workers should be able to supply blood as long as it's safe and there's nothing to affect the blood supply, it seems silly if not a little stupid not to allow if everything checks out and someone practice is clean and safe
Takes 2 mins too nice quick & easy
