BBC Documentary request
« on: 25 April 2017, 04:33:21 pm »
Hi not sure where to post this so admin move if required. Just had an email on AW that says this

My name is Jack and I am a film maker for BBC.

I am working on a short film for BBC THREE all about Sex in the UK.

I am interested in speaking with some of the women who travel the UK looking for clients.

At this stage, this is all confidential and I am looking to speak with someone who might be interested in speaking with me about the film and possibly filming in the and getting involved in the short film in the near future.

Please send me a message on here, or email Jack.*********@bbc.co.uk

You can even call on 077128728**

Many thanks

Jack
BBC Producer

Now I'm not gullible or na?ve so I asked him to emailed me a business landline number to authenticate his request but no response. Has any other AW members received this lately? I know there have been documentaries based on escorts before so i know producers get in touch somehow but I'm a cautious cat.

Its a scam, I've heard of similar before ranging from (Always men) wanting info for anything from a University course to TV documentaries.
There might already be a piece in Saafe about it.

he replied with a full business address and landline. I have a full name now so will investigate it fully before giving him the time of day.

Well i have found his business credentials and profile on the net. This person DOES exist but does NOT necessarily mean its the real one as his profile is public knowledge. I will call the BBC tomorrow to ask as i wouldn't mind as long as they 'blur' my face out.

Will update here...i now have to spend the next 15 minutes getting into latex catsuit and its not easy i can tell you x

Moved here, which is where they would have ended up if they'd posted directly.

The @bbc.co.uk email address would say 'genuine' to me, but BBC Three programmes can be variable - have a look at a few of their documentaries on iPlayer.
'The Ian formerly known as SW5'. What they said: "Indispensable", "You are our best resource", and (hours later!) "I'm afraid that you're being made redundant..."

If there's no obvious benefit to you don't do it. The media isn't interested in portraying sex workers objectively they want a dramatic story.

Out of curiosity I'd give him a call just to make sure it's him and not some punter wanting or film student. If it happens to be him ask him what are they aiming at with this doc and see what he says. Mybe it portays sex workers in a good way, who knows.

I emailed him back last night to say I will be in touch soon, didn't want to seem too keen but gives me a bit more time.  I will call the BBC office number he gave me tomorrow and see what it is all about. I will update here

Update: Called the landline number for the office this guy said he was in. The switchboard didn't have him in the directory. Then I called the 2nd landline number for the BBC Media office and got a voicemail recording but it did confirm it was a BBC Office.

I left it for 5 mins then called again and a young man answered 'Hello?' Not BBC Media can I help you. I said can I speak to Jack blah blah blah. He went yep just hold on a minute. Well there was no transfer of the call, a few seconds later a young guy came on the phone who sounded just like the guy who answered it. I told him who I was and said he will call me back. He rang from his mobile and sounded really nervous whilst he was talking, speaking quietly and concerned people would hear him so he moved to somewhere quiet.

This all sounded a bit suss to me. I let him chat about this idea then told him I had to cut the conversation short as I had a client calling. I text him just after and said I will call him this afternoon to which I didn't get a reply.

I believe he works at the BBC but more like a Tea boy than a producer judging by his manner. I will give that one a miss

Thanks for the update! It sounds like he works at the BBC but is after free wank material.
