Backpage moved to Holland a while ago (for the duh! -obvious reasons-). it's Dutch company now Atlantische Bedrijven CV, based on the netherlands, they have all the servers and lots of staff there so I wouldn't be so quick thinking they are going to shut it down. Californian police have raided their Dallas headquarters but if the company is Dutch do they have the power to shut it down? Not sure about that...

Rentboy got shut down because it was New York based, the website that took over is an American company that moved to the Netherlands. Charging the CEO of Backpage with pimping underage girls is like charging the CEO of Fedex with drug trafficking because there a few individuals using Fedex to ship whatever drugs. The charges are ridiculous. I really hope logics prevail.

Not sure if one human rights violation can justify another one.  This is a classic case of 'shooting the messenger,' but one that has dire consequences for all of us.  If a media publication or website is liable for every action taken by any individual that publishes any content on their site, free speech is dead in America.  In addition, corporate protections are erased when the 'faceman' of a complex organization is now responsible for every action taken or policy made by that corporation.  If Kamala Harris and her ilk cared one bit for 'sex slaves,' they would leave Backpage intact and have the police scanning the site daily for postings by potential traffickers.  Erasing the forum pushes the activity underground where it is harder to monitor.

As far as I remember they charge for people offering other services too, and the real state brokers (?). In any case I do remember (back in the good ol days) when craigslist adult section was free and the distric attorney made them have people pay with their credit cards for the ads in order to trace the pimps and the bad apples.CL didn't wanted to charge but they were forced to do it by law enforcement.
