Anyone had this one today?
« on: 03 March 2009, 08:55:12 pm »
I got this earlier:

Hello Amy,

My names Clare and I?m an assistant producer for ITV. My reason for contacting you is that I?m currently working on documentary style programme about the Sex Industry and was hoping you may consider taking part?

The aim of this programme is to explore the motivations and reasons why people enter sex work and the realities of working as a prostitute, escort and Porn actress/actor in the industry.

We have had a large response already but are hoping to speak to an even wide variety of contributors with varying stances on the subject matter. We feel it?s essential to strike an even balance between pro and anti stances and are committed to doing this by interviewing as many people as possible.

I would love to have a chat with you about your experiences and find out what your advice would be to somebody wanting to get into the industry.  Also whether you anybody who is an escort who would be willing to talk with us.

I hope you are able to help and I look forward to hearing from you, there is no obligation to take part. Please either e-mail me you contact number or call me on 0161 952 0759. If you?ve already received an e-mail from ITV about this then please ignore and sorry to have e-mailed again we have a number of researchers working on this project.

Regards

Clare

I like the idea of getting an opportunity to put our point across, but the email address attached and phone number point to the lady being an Assistant Producer for ITV Daytime - I'm not familiar with Daytime TV (or ITV) but cannot imagine that it will be possible to make a comprehensive documentary about our work that would be suitable to run before the watershed, and while I am tempted to answer (and I enjoyed having a chat with the lady who was doing the article on Sex and Disability the other week) I have a feeling that this one is a non-starter. Anybody know any more about it?

Sorry Amy, I don't really know anything about it, the only thing that struck me is why is she asking for your contact number, when she must have seen your site?  ???

I have seen a few daytime things and agree that you probably wouldn't be able to be as frank as you want, but it would be best to find out, maybe get a synopsis of the program?.

I had an email from a woman called Victoria Monroe, which had almost identical wording. Mine went on to mention that it was for a 1 hour special of the Jeremy Kyle show. I think your instincts were right, Amy. Stay away from them!

Hi Burlesque Honey,

My name?s Vickie and I'm a Senior Researcher for ITV. My reason for contacting you is that I?m currently working on documentary style programme about the Sex Industry and was hoping you may consider taking part?

Over the last few years there has been an explosion of young people wanting to enter the industry ? According to The Independent, 65 per cent of young girls would like to enter the erotic industry. The aim of this programme is to explore the motivations and reasons why people enter sex work and the realities of working in various roles within the industry through the eyes of those currently employed in it.

We?ve had a large response already but are hoping to speak to an even wide variety of contributors with varying stances on the subject matter. We feel it?s essential to strike an even balance between pro and anti stances and are committed to doing this by interviewing as many people as possible.

There is no obligation to appear any programme and all conversations will be 100% confidential. At this stage I would just like to speak to people about their experiences and explore the possibility of them being involved. Furthermore, I appreciate that some people will find these issues will be difficult to talk about and we approach all our guests with the utmost sensitivity and respect.

I must reiterate that fairness is crucial in a show like this and we are committed to producing a balanced programme that will cover a wide variety of issues and give all parties a chance to put voice their opinions and talk about their experience of the industry.

We?re working to a tight deadline and would therefore very much appreciate the chance to speak to you as soon as possible.  We?re looking at filming in the next few weeks (mid March) but we will try and be as flexible as possible to accommodate people where we can.

Please feel free to get in touch anytime via the details below.

All the best,

Vickie Munro

And I replied with the following, especially with the emphasis on fairness in the email  ;)

Hi Vicky

Thanks for your email.

As you might appreciate, your programme is one of many.  I receive
requests to participate in documentaries on a regular basis virtually
from every channel.   In fact, the old adage sex sells is very much in
evidence in the media, which might explain as to why there are so many
?productions? devoted to the industry.  Some are more worthy than
others, however, I have little interest in being involved as I try to
remain as discreet as possible.  Hence I would like to avoid any high
profile participation in the general media.

Moreover, I have chosen escorting as an additional part time
occupation due to good hours versus relative good pay.  Nowhere in
your email do you mention expenses and or indeed paying me for my
time.  I take it you do not work on charitable basis so I am quite
frankly puzzled when programme researchers expect me to give up my
valuable time for nothing.  I certainly do not crave media attention
to consider ?freebies?.  If you would like me to give you some frank
views without appearing on the programme itself than you will
appreciate I would like to be reimbursed for my time.

Regards
Honey

I got the master of avoiding the money glib reply from her lol

Hi Honey,

Thanks so much for your speedy reply. I totally understand your
reticence in participating in the programme and the need to keep a low
profile.

All the best,

I was approached by CBS when escorting in NYC in 2002 and indeed the guy was legit and I turned him down but I managed to have a guided visit of the CBS offices  :D  and even a short talk with the head office guy tho will not cite his name for obvious reasons. Those who watch CBS knows who I am talking about.. Anyways after all this treatment I still refused because it would have hurted my clientele big time. Ah and yes they were no willing to pay me enough lol
